Vera Wang Anniversary Fragrance and Giveaway!

To celebrate 20 years of sophistication, Vera Wang has just launched a new fragrance, Vera Wang Anniversary. “Commemorating love, happiness and modern femininity, Vera Wang Anniversary is a sensuous woody floral with hints of red apple leaves, mandarin oil, gardenia, and orange flowers for the modern elegant woman.”  The notes are: Top:  Sicilian bergamot, red apple leaves, mandarin oil, cool dew drops.  Middle:  White gardenia, rose absolute, orange flowers.  Base:  Silky musks, orris, amber crystals, cedarwood.

This is a lovely floral scent with gardenia being the stand-out note in the mix. I love the smell of Gardenia–it’s a beautiful flower and holds beautiful memories for me. When I was in my early twenties, I dated an “older” man in his mid-30′s. He once took me to a party at one of his rich friends homes–’ya know marble staircase, maids, piano by the pool. I was wearing one of my favorite dresses– a dress I had purchased from the designer herself when I worked at Nordstrom;-it had a peach background with white gardenias. Now that I look back, I was hot. As he was driving us to the party, he made a stop at the florist and bought me a single white gardenia for my hair. I smelled that delicious scent all night long and felt like a princess. Truly, it was one of those unforgettable times in my life when I felt really, genuinely pretty.

The fusion of gardenia, bergmont, and orange flower make for a soft and womanly scent. I say womanly because Vera Wang Anniversary is very different from Vera Wang Princess; there is no overt sweetness in Anniversary, it’s more grown-up and refined than Princess–if Princess is a teen, than Anniversary is Princess’s mother.  Although the base notes are musk, amber and cedarwood, I cannot detect them–but that’s okay with me, I like floral feminine scents. I found this fragrance to last longer on me than some which I’m delighted about.

The bottle is a solid but pretty cut glass with lavendar “petals” all around. If you like dark, musky or oriental scents you’ll want to skip Vera Wang Anniversary. However, if you prefer light florals with substance, that are not cloying then go get Vera Wang Anniverary now!

Vera Wang Anniversary Eau de Parfum is available in : 1.7fl oz/50mL $72, 3.4fl oz/100mL $92 and also available in a shimmer rollerball .34 fl oz/10mL $25

I  recognize my Father’s after shave. It’s a fragrance usually used by older men, so whenever I pass someone wearing it, I feel that my father is nearby. I love it.

My fondest memories…if I smell Estee Lauder perfume. I think of my mom. She was so gorgeous and beautiful and when she got dressed, no matter where she was going, she would spritz on this perfume. If I walk by that fragrance, I am quickly reminded of her.

This is not so much a memory of a fragrance, but of the beautiful bottle the fragrance was in–I remember “Evening in Paris” and wish I had kept the bottle. I also remember when a guy I liked told me he liked my perfume (Anais Anais) and my husband liked how Red Door smelled on me. Of course I love many fragrances and I would love to try this one by Vera Wang.

I was wearing the old classic fragrance Chloe when I met my husband 30 years ago. He always comments that I smell good and continues to ask, “Is that Chloe?” when he notices I’m wearing scent he likes. I haven’t the heart to correct him.

A particular fragrance that often takes me back to my childhood is the smell of gardenias…. I can always remember my grandmother cutting the biggest most fragrant gardenias from all the buses she had when I was a child and letting us take some to our favorite teachers at school.

I fondly remember the scent of night jasmine as a child when my family and I used to visit our summer home in Naples, Florida where it grew in the backyard. Sadly, because of the economy, we’ve had to sell it, but I’ve been in love with the scent ever since.
