Packaging is everything. Okay, maybe not everything, but close. I am a sucker for great packaging be it practical or beautiful. I’m a girly girl and I like pretty things, a trait that was passed down from my mother. She used a night cream (I think it may have been Charles of the Ritz) that was packaged in a white porcelain jar with gold clawed feet and an exquisite gold finial on top of the lid. My mother kept that jar for over 40 years! It sat on her dressing table and I’m sure it made her happy. The Valentiono Valentina eau de parfum falcon will live on my vanity forever– it is exceptionally beautiful and makes me feel too. Let’s be practical though, even I wouldn’t buy an expensive perfume just for the bottle. Honest!
Valentina does not disappoint. Launched in 2011, the fragrance is inspired by the city of Rome and Italian flavors. If this is what Rome smells like, book me on the next flight! It was designed as a fresh floral but oh Miss Valentina is so much more complex than that.
Top Notes: Bergamont and White Truffles
Middle Notes: Jasmine, Orange Flower, Tuberose and Sweet Strawberry
Base Notes: Cedar, Vanilla and Amber
No surprise that I cherish this fragrance. Yes, I said “cherish.” It combines my favorite white florals with bergamont on a warm base. A scent that is so perfect for me does not come along often and I cherish it when it happens. The last “signature” fragrance I wore was Dior Miss Dior Cherie and that launched in 2007.
Admittedly, at first spray I was not immediately smitten. I liked it, but I didn’t love it–the opening is very sweet but brief, it dries down quickly (for me within a half hour) into a smooth flowing scent. The middle notes appear next starring strawberry and my beloved jasmine, followed by truffle to ground the scent. Vanilla adds a warm, comforting, sexiness to the juice while the orange flower and strawberry give the mix a joyful lightness.
Perhaps what I love best about Valentina is the balance of the scent. White florals can be cloying and fruity scents can come off juvenile. The magic of Valentina, in my humble opinion lies in addition of the truffle. It adds an earthiness without being too weighty or dark. If you prefer a darker more sultry scent, try Valentina Assoluto, Valentina’s older badass sister. Review here.
As previously mentioned, the falcon is splendid; feminine and romantic. The round bottle is adorned with three rosettes in pale pink and white scattered over the bottle. In promo pictures I thought they were made of leather but turns out they are resin I think. Whatever they are made of, they are stunning. The spray head is quite unique, it is a ball with a flat top to provide an even mist.
Valentina is like a beautiful ballerina: elegant, graceful and classy with an edge. After all prima ballerinas have to be competitive and driven. Valentina is very feminine and romantic but she is also a modern woman that is confident and sexy.
