The Bold & The Beautiful
Smashbox Masquerade Eye Shadow Palette

Hey beauties, congratulate me! I stepped out of my comfort zone and purchased the Smashbox Masquerade eye shadow palette; a departure from my usual comfy neutrals, this palette is full of pretty jewel tones.  Stepping outside the box  was easy thanks to Smashbox’s well thought out palette. The colors are designed to work together in horizontal rows of three–it’s a no-brainer and my brain appreciates that, especially at 5:30 in the a.m!  Of course if you’re the creative type, you might want to play tick-tac-toe and mix and match any of the nine shades in the palette–the diagonal always catches your opponent off guard!

Masquerade contains a matte soft peach, shimmering black plum, matte taupe, metallic khaki, shimmering gold, bronze, metallic cabernet, shimmering navy, & matte bone. I tried the first row and the result was a smoky brown-plum eye. I used the matte peach under the brow bone, the shimmery plum on the moveable lid and the matte taupe in the crease. I added Urban DEcay 24/7 eyeliner in Oil Slick on top the waterline and Chanel Violet Smoke to line under lower lashes. Even though I applied lightly, the effect was fairly dramatic for daytime which is a testament to the pigmentation of the shadows.  I can see taking this combination to the next level for a sexy, smoldering night time look.  Although many of the colors are dramatic, Smashbox has cleverly added a few neutrals for balance thereby creating a very functional and multipurpose palette. I found the texture to be quite nice; smooth and velvety.

Packaging: shiny metallic blue palette with full mirror

Value: at only $35 for nine shades ranging from subtle to bold, this is a good value

Quality: great pigmentation, a little goes a long way. The texture is smooth and velvety.

Overall: The smooth texture and mix of neutrals and bold shades make this a wonderful palette for rich fall looks. A great value at $35 for nine eye shadows. The setup of the palette takes the guess work out of coordinating the shades which is a bonus for the timid or the lazy (me).

Grade: A

To get the look shown on the model:

Sweep the taupe shade in EYE PALETTE in MASQUERADE from lashline to natural crease. Sweep the bronze shade across lid and apply the shimmering black plum shade in the crease. Next, line the upper lashline with LIQUID LINER & LASH OVERLAY in TEAL and blend the navy shade from EYE PALETTE in MASQUERADE over the liner for a truly smoldering effect. For the lower lashline, apply the LIQUID LINER & LASH OVERLAY then blend the bronze shade from EYE PALETTE in MASQUERADE over it to soften.

To complete this captivating look, dab LIP ENHANCING GLOSS in REVEAL onto lips with fingertips for an ultra glossy pout.
