Tarte ReCreate Foundation Review

I have been on a mission quest to find the perfect foundation. I’ve tried several drugstore brands and a few expensive high end brands; Laua Mercier, Bobbi Brown,Chanel, Dior among others. Admittedly I have some extensive criteria; I want medium coverage, (enough to cover some redness) somewhere between a dewy and matte finish, a sanitary pump bottle, as many natural ingredients as possible, it must last all day (at least 12 hrs), must not transfer, must not settle into lines, has to minimize pores, tell me I’m pretty, take care of me when I’m sick and always be faithful and true–oh wait, that last part is for my soul mate.  Anywho, after a long and arduous search, I think I may have found the perfect foundation–it had me at ‘anti-aging’.

Tarte ReCreate natural anti-aging foundation with Wrinkle Rewindâ„¢ technology SPF 15.  Now that’s a mouth full!  From the Tarte website: The first on its kind, ReCreate is a natural, anti-aging foundation powered by Wrinkle Rewind technology; a proprietary complex which helps decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while increasing skin’s overall moisture. Micronized minerals immediately brighten the skin while providing SPF 15 UVA/ UVB Broad Spectrum protection.

This foundation actually does meet quite a bit of my criteria; medium coverage, pump bottle, natural ingredients, long lasting, does not accenuate my wrinkles and pores and has a nice finish. The anti-aging stuff is a bonus. The absolute best thing about it is the finish. It looks natural and makes your skin look flawless. It is moisturizing and dewy without looking oily. The finish is matte with a bit of a glow–exactly what I was looking for. In fact, The Boyfriend said on Sunday that my skin looked ‘glowy’. Wowza! Tarte ReCreate covers beautifully; providing the right amount of coverage without looking cakey..at all. The sales associate at Sephora chose Cool Bisque 04 for me which was a surprise as I usually wear warm shades. Whatever– it’s a good match. She applied the foundation with a foundation brush but did a terrible job blending and I had a blotch on my nose and my chin looked horrible. I asked if I could use the brush and after more blending, the look immediately improved. At home I have been using my fingers which works even better for me. While this gives good coverage it does not feel heavy or mask-like; in fact I quite like the feel–creamy and smooth. It is long lasting, even more so when used with a primer but it not necessary to use primer with this foundation.

Another thing I appreciate about Tarte ReCreate is what it doesn’t have; and this is where the ‘natural’ part comes in. It is formulated without: parabens, sulfates, pthalates, synthetic dye, synthetic fragrance, propylene glycol, mineral oil and oil.

Tarte claims the following clinical results for ReCreate foundation:

  • Significant increase in skin elasticity, firmness and resiliency an average of 22% after 2 weeks of use and 43% after 4 weeks of use.
  • Significant reduction in the appearance of fine lines and facial wrinkles an average of 39% after 4 weeks of use and 67% after 6 weeks of use.
  • Re-hydrating – retains up to 20x weight of water and up to 3x increased skin moisture overall.

I have been using it for about two weeks and cannot really comment on improved firmness and elasticity; however I do think it provides hydration, brightening benefits and a flawless finish. Time will tell on the other claims. I really really like this foundation.

  1. I absolutely love Tarte’s Smooth Operator. It is the best, most underrated, tinted moisturizer on the market! Blows Laura Mercier out of the water, in my opinion:) Haven’t tried this stuff yet – but great review!

    • That’s great to know! I used the LM all last summer so I definitely try Tarte this summer! And thanks for visiting!

  2. I tried Re-create, but I am very fair, and even the lightest shade they offered was too dark. I liked the formulation, the color was just way off for me- a bit too yellow based. :( I’m hoping tarte adds colors to their line like they did with Smooth Operator. And a HUGE 2nd on how awesome Smooth Operator is, I’ve been using it for 5 years!!!

hi just bought this makeup. love it. used to be a huge LM fan then for cost and simplicity’s sake i went the drugstore route. not good.
got a compliment on my skin courtesy of tarte yesterday for the first time in forever. am a convert.

    • That’s so great Caroline! My friend Laurie tells me Smooth Operator is a fantastic tinted moisturizer as well. I used the Laura Mercier one all last summer but I’m going to try Tarte’s SM this year. I can’t wear drugstore foundations either and I’ve tried a lot. I would rather spend the extra money and get something that works for my skin. Congrats!

  4. I am struggling nowadays to find a decent anti aging product but it appears right now there is actually little or nothing that might fix my skin. Just in case somebody absolutely find out some kind of solution that could possibly make miracles just let me know and I will appreciate that.

  5. I’ve haven’t tried Tarte ReCreate before and it sounds pretty promising. I’m always on the look out for good anti-aging creams. From what I googled, some of the ladies don’t like the off colors, but I bet some tips from the gals at youtube can make the adjustments ;) I will be getting Tarte in a week or 2 to try it out :)

I tried this foundation in hopes that I could find a foundation that doesn’t “settle” in my lines/wrinkles. :(
I’m 44 & maybe it’s impossible?? But Tarte’s ReCreate foundation settles in every wrinkle I have & makes them look worse :(
