Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation

Now there’s some strong powerful women! I was hoping that by wearing Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Infused Liquid Foundation, I would somehow transform into a tall, lean, mighty, commanding, Amazon Warrior Woman.  It didn’t happen. The closest I have ever come to an Amazon Woman is that I have been called on more than one occasion, domineering. Imagine! It was a man who said that so consider the source.

While I may not be an Amazon Warrior Lady, my skin looks great and stays that way all day with Tarte’s  Amazonian Clay Foundation. It is lightweight, oil free and gives light coverage similiar to a tinted moisturizer. In fact, I was confused by the packaging because my tube is marked Smooth Operator with a small sticker that says amazonian clay foundation so I was unsure which foundation I was actually sent. A quick email to Tarte explained that to save on packaging they put the amazonian clay foundation in the Smooth Operator packaging (with the sticker) since they would both look the same and to save resources. I’m not sure how I feel about that–it may save them money, but it’s kinda cheesy.

Tarte’s description: Infused with tarte’s Amazonian white clay, this nourishing and buildable high-performance natural formula gently balances and helps to correct skin concerns while simultaneously erasing flaws and creating a youthful and luminous glow. This formula improves the appearance of skin’s texture, clarity, and firmness. It luminizes and balances your complexion. This formula is also chock-full of Skinvigorating ingredients like chamomile, vitamins A, C, and E, and sodium hyaluronate, which all work in perfect harmony to nourish, moisturize, protect, and revitalize all skin types.

I purchased this on QVC and it came with a foundation brush but I have to admit, I haven’t used it. I’ve been applying this foundation with my fingers and it blends wonderfully. When I first applied the foundation I was really disappointed because it looked very yellow. I comtemplated returning it and then tried again. That day I was shopping at Nordstrom so I stopped to see my favorite MA to get her opinion. I thought for sure she was going to diss my foundation but she liked it and didn’t think it looked yellow at all. I think after a few minutes it just melts into your skin. It looks and feels like you’re not even wearing foundation–score! I ordered medium and I’m so glad I did–it ended up being the ideal shade for summer without looking unnatural. It is available in only 4 shades–fair, light, medium and deep.  I’ve been looking for a great tinted moisturizer but this is better because you get no shine and it holds up to the heat and humidity.

Packaging: the old Smooth Operator squeeze tube

Value: I paid $32.76 for the foundation and brush on QVC. Not bad for a quality foundation and brush!

Quality: I’m never disappointed with Tarte’s foundation and this is no exception

Best For: someone who wants light sheer coverage for summer that stands up to heat and humidity. If you want medium to full coverage, this is not the foundation for you

Overall: a great foundation for summer. Extremely natural, lightweight and easy to wear. Oily skin types may want to set with a light powder on T-zone

Grade: A-  more shade options would make this foundation perfect!

Those Amazonian Women really know how to make good makeup :)
