January Jones, star of Mad men, one of my favorite TV shows, looks stunning in her bright orange lipstick doesns’t she? It not only brightens her face but makes those blue peepers pop! Such a classy polished look with her white sheath. With such a bright lip, she kept everything else simple; looks like a nice black semi-cat eye and a very nude (if at all) blush.
For my take on bright lips, I turned to the Lipstick Queen. On my recent trip to Dallas I was able to shop for the first time ever in a Barney’s store. I specifically went to see the Lipstick Queen line since I don’t have access to it here and I’m in awe of Poppy King. I was looking for a nice bright summery lipstick and on KarlaSugar’s wonderful recommendation, I purchased the Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencil in Chase– an orangey red. The glossy pencils are moisturizing, soft, and super….well, glossy! Although not labeled as a stain, these chubby pencils are very pigmented and glide on leaving a bit of a stain on lips. Not a lipstick and not a balm, these pencils are meant to be “drawn on”. Inspired by the Chinatown neighborhood in NYC and the movie, Poppy King designed the shades after the bright goods for sale in Chinatown and the packaging for her favorite movie. There are even cute scenes from the movie on the package! The pencils come in five shades, retail for $20 and come with their own sharpener. I adore the glossy moisturizing formula, it’s perfect for that juicy look, and just look how shiny.!!
Stila Raspberry Crush Lip & Cheek Stain – Thanks to the success I had with Stila’s Yumberry Crush Lip & Cheek Stain, (see review here) I wanted to try something brighter for a pop of summer color. Raspberry Crush is Yumberry’s louder obnoxious sister that gets all the attention. She delivers a vibrant pop of pink to your lips and cheeks. Packed with good for you ingredients and barely there shimmer, this stain really looks like you’ve been caught eating raspberries in the garden or a bright cherry popsicle. Infused with naturally staining raspberry extracts, this sweet scented stain reacts to your personal pH levels to create your perfect vibrant pink shade every time. Since it is a stain, it is a tad bit drying so I like to put a clear balm on top–I usually use a dab of Vitamin E balm. The Crush Lip & Cheeks stains are available in 5 shades and retail for $24.
