As an over 40 woman, I seem to be forever chasing the glow of my youth. While good skincare habits and regular exfoliation helps, we mature women sometimes need a little extra assistance and Make Up For Ever’s provides that lit from within glow! Uplight is a lightweight gel made of more than 70% water (another plus for us over 40′s) so it melts into the skin and feels utterly weightless. Formulated with mango butter to hydrate, it’s oil free and contains reflective pearls to catch the light and illuminate the skin.
I’ve always said when Make Up For Ever introduces a new product, they do it right and Uplight is no exception. Available in eight shades and three unique finishes, there is sure to be something for every complexion. Dewy and Pearl finishes utilize Make Up For Ever Star Powder for an iridescent effect, while the Sparkling finish uses Diamond Powder for a let’s be honest–a glitter fest on the face.
There are four cool shades:
- #21 Pearly White
- #31 Sparkling Blue Pink
- #11 Dewy Pink Beige
- #22 Pearly Pink Flesh
And four warm shades:
- #12 Dewy Golden Warm
- #32 Sparkling Golden Pink
- #23 Pearly Golden Flesh
- #33 Sparkling Golden Copper
I tried #12 Dewy Golden Warm and I luuuurve it! It glides on the skin effortlessly immediately imparting a luminosity and healthy glow. I mixed it with my foundation for a subtle candlelit glow. This shade is all in the name–it gives my skin some much needed warmth after a snowy winter and the finish is indeed glowy as opposed to slick or shiny.
Uplight can also be used on cheeks, brow bone, cupids bow, collarbone–anywhere you want a little brilliance. You can also mix Uplight with your cream blushes to highlight your cheekbones, or just dab on top of the cheekbones. I’m kind of a mixologist so I like to mix everything.
At first glance, I thought #12 Dewy Golden Warm was a dupe for BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal, but as you can see, Opal is much warmer and more bronzy. Although these two shades don’t compare, they are very similar in their fluid texture and the way they apply. The BECCA product has a slightly thicker consistency than Uplight if that is a factor for you. However, BECCA Skin Perfectors retail for $41 for 1.7 fl.oz and MUFE Uplight retails for $29 for .55 fl. oz. So which is the better bargain? BECCA is per/oz. however, I will never, ever use up a full bottle of Shimmering Skin Perfector–there is just too much product, especially when you are using the size of a grain of rice for your whole face. Personally, I would rather spend $29 and buy a few different shades of Uplight rather than spend $41 a pop on Skin Perfectors I will never finish–that’s just me.
Bottom Line:If you are looking for something to perk up your complexion and get back your youthful glow, Make Up For Ever Uplight is the Golden Ticket! I’d like to get a few more–#23 Pearly Golden Flesh and maybe #11 Dewy Pink Beige. I would however, strongly suggest trying these before purchasing–Sephora is notorious for bad color swatches. I will also caution against the Sparkling finish at least for daytime use as it is very glittery. Another thing to note–the pump packaging is very touchy–too much product comes out–it’s hard not to waste.
Make Up For Ever Uplight is available at Sephora.com, MUFE boutiques & studios and will be in Sephora stores in May.
