Step Into The Light With Make Up For Ever Uplight

As an over 40 woman, I seem to be forever chasing the glow of my youth. While good skincare habits and regular exfoliation helps, we mature women sometimes need a little extra assistance and Make Up For Ever’s  provides that lit from within glow! Uplight is a lightweight gel made of more than 70% water (another plus for us over 40′s) so it melts into the skin and feels utterly weightless. Formulated with mango butter to hydrate, it’s oil free and contains reflective pearls to catch the light and illuminate the skin.

I’ve always said when Make Up For Ever introduces a new product, they do it right and Uplight is no exception. Available in eight shades and three unique finishes, there is sure to be something for every complexion. Dewy and Pearl finishes utilize Make Up For Ever Star Powder for an iridescent effect, while the Sparkling finish uses Diamond Powder for a let’s be honest–a glitter fest on the face.

There are four cool shades:

  • #21 Pearly White
  • #31 Sparkling Blue Pink
  • #11 Dewy Pink Beige
  • #22 Pearly Pink Flesh

And four warm shades:

  • #12 Dewy Golden Warm
  • #32 Sparkling Golden Pink
  • #23 Pearly Golden Flesh
  • #33 Sparkling Golden Copper

I tried #12 Dewy Golden Warm and I luuuurve it! It glides on the skin effortlessly immediately imparting a luminosity and healthy glow. I mixed it with my foundation for a subtle candlelit glow.  This shade is all in the name–it gives my skin some much needed warmth after a snowy winter and the finish is indeed glowy as opposed to slick or shiny.

Uplight #12 Dewy Golden Warm

Uplight can also be used on cheeks, brow bone, cupids bow, collarbone–anywhere you want a little brilliance. You can also mix Uplight with your cream blushes to highlight your cheekbones, or just dab on top of the cheekbones. I’m kind of a mixologist so I like to mix everything. :)

Uplight #12 & MUFE HD Blush #12-First Kiss

At first glance, I thought #12 Dewy Golden Warm was a dupe for BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal, but as you can see, Opal is much warmer and more bronzy. Although these two shades don’t compare, they are very similar in their fluid texture and the way they apply. The BECCA product has a slightly thicker consistency than Uplight if that is a factor for you. However, BECCA Skin Perfectors retail for $41 for 1.7 fl.oz and MUFE Uplight retails for $29 for .55 fl. oz.  So which is the better bargain? BECCA is per/oz. however, I will never, ever use up a full bottle of Shimmering Skin Perfector–there is just too much product, especially when you are using the size of a grain of rice for your whole face. Personally, I would rather spend $29 and buy a few different shades of Uplight rather than spend $41 a pop on Skin Perfectors I will never finish–that’s just me.

Bottom Line:If you are looking for something to perk up your complexion and get back your youthful glow, Make Up For Ever Uplight is the Golden Ticket! I’d like to get a few more–#23 Pearly Golden Flesh and maybe #11 Dewy Pink Beige. I would however, strongly suggest trying these before purchasing–Sephora is notorious for bad color swatches.  I will also caution against the Sparkling finish at least for daytime use as it is very glittery. Another thing to note–the pump packaging is very touchy–too much product comes out–it’s hard not to waste.

Make Up For Ever Uplight is available at Sephora.com, MUFE boutiques & studios and will be in Sephora stores in May.

Prime Beauty Grade: A (for the dewy and pearly finishes)

  1. I love anything shimmery so I will have to check these out the next time I’m at Sephora. I’m looking for something I can mix with foundation that doesn’t look glittery or too unrealistic.

    • MUFE Uplight is just what you want–just make sure to stick with the pearly and dewy finishes and skip the sparkling if you don’t want glitter :)

  2. These look terrific. I do want to see the shimmer factor though so I’ll just hope that May comes soon!

  11. Can you help me Cindy? You have so much but now I need extra help..

I’m just curious Cindy what particular foundation do you recommend for a woman who is 43 with very dry, very, very, stressed, menopausal skin? I’m freaking out. All of the latest products are “NOT” helping my skin. I went through a terrible sickness for 6 years which stressed my skin to no end. Prior t this, I had some emotional stress with back to back deaths in a days time. I look pale and grayish with reddish marks on my eyelid’s. There is loss of firmness and tone. I am starting to see those nasty Nasal-labial Fold Lines pretty badly. It really upsets me because I’ve
    A) NEVER TANNED MY FACE OR BODY EVER! ALWAYS WORN SUNSCREEN

    B) ALWAYS USED QUALITY, HIGH-END, GOOD PRODUCTS FOR MY SKIN TYPE

    C) NEVER HAD A PIMPLE (NOT EVEN AS A TEEN) I WAS SO LUCKY I KNOW

    D) CAN’T GET MY SKIN TO SNAP BACK TO SOME NORLMACY WITHOUT A TON OF HIGHLY EXPENSIVE MAKE-UP AND HIDDEN SHIMMERS IN MY CREAMS WHICH ARE DOING ME NO GOOD. I FEEL I LOOK FAKE AND TOO MADE UP WHEN I AM A NATURAL GIRL NEXT DOOR PEACHES & CREAM SKINNED TYPE of GIRL PRIOR TO THESE ORDEALS.

    E) BECAME A FOLLOWER OF THIS BLOG AND I HAVE FOUND SOME AWESOME PRODUCT RECCOMEDATIONS FOR instance, “THE EXUVIANCE ANTI-AGING PRODUCT Line.” I’M PLACING AN ORDER TODAY FOR their awesome products to get my skin back in shape.

Recently out of the blue, The company, “EXUVIANCE” ACTUALLY SENT ME A NICE “FREE FULL SIZE PRODUCT” FOR MY PLAQUE Psoriasis..The psoriasis is on THE BACKS OF both MY ARMS from the mid top of the back sides down to my elbows. It’s just in the wrong place. I am ashamed to wear anything that will show the backs of my arms which living in the South is near to impossible to pull off. . Too many people have questioned what it is and made comments to the point I don’t care for anyone to see it. . So I hide. Winter is a better season for me so I can actually go out and feel comfortable.

Well, Cindy let me tell you and your readers, WITH 2 USES of this miracle product. . MY ARMS, AFTER 6 YEARS OF THIS UGLY, UGLY, RED, BROWN, grayish scaly DISCOLORED MASK.. IT IS NEARLY NOTICEABLE. I’M FLOORED AND I’VE BEEN GIVEN THE BEST MEDICATIONS FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH NO RESULTS. Including a topical steriod cream. It’s important to note, I’ve seen THE BEST DOCTORS THE WORLD HAS TO OFFER.
IF “EXUVIANCE’S” FACIAL CREAMS/PRODUCTS ARE AS IMPRESSIVE AS THIS PLAQUE PSIRIOSIS PRODUCT. I’M GOING TO SCREAM THEIR NAMES FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOPS.

I’M normally very SKEPTICAL BECAUSE MANY PRODUCTS HAVE ROBBED ME OF MY MONEY AND THEIR PRODUCT ISN’T WORTH NOTING. Not to mention the promises of doing something with zero results. That I don’t like whatsoever. If I’m going to spend my money on a product it better do what they say it does or I’m done.

Now back to my original question. I’m looking for a foundation which gives FULL coverage. I have a few scar’s from where I was hit by a drunk driver in 1989. I’ve had several plastic surgeries trying to restore the damage that accident alone caused. So, this is the first problem. I want something that will feed my skin while it’s on my face, will plump fine lines and wrinkles. Has antioxidants, Vitamin C, E, and contains the latest top of the line skin rejuvenation ingredients in it. Price is no problem. I’ve always expected as a woman, to pay for keeping beautiful so I will do what I need to if I get results. I’m currently using Christian Dior, Capture Totale Foundation. I do love the look it gives my skin. But I’m still having a problem with dryness around my nose by mid-afternoon and I feel so made-up, so, something has to give. For $78 bucks a bottle i do expect at least 8-9 hours of hydration. I do know how to properly apply my make-up so this isn’t an issue either. I’ve used about very make-up known to mankind.

I will be the first to agree my skin is on a 24-7 hydration starvation strike. It seems without using pure shea butter on my face I don’t feel hydrated. However using pure shea butter really is not practical during the day or for just normal wear. Mainly because it’s thick and very greasy and makes me feel like my face is smothering a slight bit. I’ve used about very moisturizer known to mankind as well.

I hope you can help me find the right foundation that I’m looking for. I trust you after I got turned on to Exuviance and that amazing product I’m currently using. I am doing before and after pictures of the backs of my arms for proof in the pudding of their product. When I believe, I believe! a nice suggestion for a concealer would be helpful as well. They all claim to hide fine lines but the minute I get it on and look in the mirror there are the fine lines so ENHANCED I want to SCREAM!!

    • Hi Robyn!

For a good foundation for dry skin, I suggest two things–a hydrating primer, Laura Mercier makes a good one or Josie Maran’s primer. A foundation with Argan Oil in it may help your dry skin–again Josie Maran makes a good one. In fact, you might try Argan Oil as a moisturizer–it works for most people and I’ve never heard of anyone being allergic. If you have flakiness in areas, make sure you are exfoliating with a gently. Origins has a great mild exfoliator/cleanser called Modern Friction that I love.

Here is the Josie Maran website: http://www.josiemarancosmetics.com/ Hope this helps!
