Splurge vs. Steal: Makeup Revolution Chocolate Vice Palette vs. Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette

Press Sample

Everyone loves to save money and when I find a bargain I love to share. I own both the Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette ($49) and the Makeup Revolution Chocolate Vice Palette ($15) and it occurred to me they are very similar. Are they exactly the same? No, but Chocolate Vice is 1/3 the price of Sweet Peach and the quality is on par. That is exciting!

Don’t let the name Chocolate Vice fool you, it is nothing like the Urban Decay Vice palette. Makeup Revolution has quite a few Chocolate palettes out now and most have names that are a take-off of more popular brands: Chocolate Vice, Naked Chocolate, Golden Bar you get the idea.

The Chocolate Vice palette has 16 matte and shimmer shades in peach, pinks, bronze and a few smoked shades, Sweet Peach has 18 shades of peachy pinks, corals and bronzes.  There are more neutral shades in Chocolate Vice, however, they are more useful to me than Sweet Peach–I don’t care for the four purple shades in Sweet Peach because they have a patchy texture.

Sweet Peach (top) Chocolate Vice (bottom)

Sweet Peach wins the packaging prize. The palette is housed in an adorable tin with embossed ombre peaches as a design. Chocolate Vice is packaged in a cute plastic palette which looks like a partially melted dark chocolate bar. Though not a dupe for the Too Faced Chocolate Bar design, it is definitely “inspired by.” Both palettes have a full sized mirror and are cute to look at but bulky, so not very practical. The Chocolate Vice palette has no discernable scent but I don’t mind as I don’t care for the cloying peach scent present in the Sweet Peach palette. Sweet Peach has no brush, Chocolate Vice has a throw away sad foam applicator.

The Chocolate Vice palette consists of:

  • Vice – a beautiful pale yellow gold shimmer
  • Sway – a matte pale peach close to my skintone
  • Satisfy – a light champagne shimmer
  • Require – a warm toned peach shimmer
  • Convert – a light chocolate brown matte

  • Treat – a matte dark chocolate brown
  • Habit – a medium yellow gold shimmer
  • Persuade – a warm orange shimmer
  • Need – a matte cool toned light brown
  • Crave – a chocolate brown with golden shimmer
  • Lust – a deep navy blue satin with blue sparkle

  • Reason – a peach satin
  • Must – a coral pink satin
  • Maleficence – a terracotta matte
  • Fancy – a  deep pinky coral satin
  • Appeal – a chalky white matte

It’s a draw on quality and texture. Sweet Peach has a few patchy shades and Chocolate Vice’s appeal is chalky. Otherwise, the eyeshadows in both palettes are creamy and soft; neither kicked up powder nor had fallout. Both palettes are warm toned with just a few cooler shades.

A demerit goes to each palette for having shades that are too alike in the same palette: Too Faced for Puree and Summer Yum and Cobbler and Carmelized and Chocolate Vice for Vice and Sway and Convert and Need.

Here are a few comparisons shades–as you can see they are not exact dupes but the feel and tone of the palettes are very similar. In each of these pictures Too Faced is the first swatch and Chocolate Vice is second.

Chocolate Vice wins the price category hands down. I am surprised and delighted that this palette is only $15. That is a real STEAL for the cute packaging and excellent quality. AND Ulta Beauty often has these palettes on a buy one get one half off sale, in fact, there is a sale going on right now!

Makeup Revolution has several chocolate palettes available:

  • Naked Chocolate
  • Golden Bar
  • Death by Chocolate
  • Chocolate Love (online only)-dupe for TF Chocolate Bon Bons?
  • New! Unicorn Love
  • Pink Fizz

I’ll leave it you to decide if Makeup Revolution’s Chocolate Vice palette is a dupe for Too Faced Sweet Peach palette but I will tell you the quality is comparable and several of the shades are pretty darn close.

After reading this, tell me, would you buy the MR Chocolate Vice palette ($15) or the TF Sweet Peach palette ($49)? I’m dying to know!

  • Robin Rue

I like them both. I am a BIG fan of earthy tones, so the colors in both of these palettes appeal to me.

  • Kristina

Very pretty colors! I need to expand my makeup stash. I don’t buy it that often but it’s very fun to play with!

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

I really like my Sweet Peach palette but I’m all for close enough dupes

  • If I didn’t already have the Peach palette I would want that Makeup Revolution dupe! Great comparison!

  • I love Too Faced, but I would probably save on this one. Probably because I have SO many pallets that I really don’t need another lol

  • I love Too Faced chocolate stuff but the peach I can’t stand, so this is awesome. Dupes are great finds sometimes!

  • Marcie in Mommyland

That’s a great price! I love the shimmery tones. I rarely do my makeup now that I have two little kids, but this might inspire me to do it more often!

    • Right now at Ulta Makeup Revolution is buy one get one 50% off!

  • Klaudia

Make-up revolution has A axact dupe of the sweet peach palette the name of the palette is chocolate and peaches

  • marciaf

I was looking at Makeup Revolution’s display and saw a lot of great palettes. The TF never appealed to me, especially at that price, but this MR one definitely does.

  • I always like the ones with a bit of shimmer. To me they add some interest to the eyes. My hazel eyes need a bit of oomph.

    • All these colors would flatter hazel eyes!

  • Dani

I love all the shimmer and glitter this palette has! However I don’t normally wear makeup besides a little bit of eyeliner. I would still try the darker shades.

  • polarbelle

I’ve been dying to see a review on these. The pictures on the Ulta website aren’t great and there’s no testers, so I was totally dying to see one. Love me some MUR

    • They have tons of these chocolate palettes and now there is a darlling unicorn palette too!

  • Some of the shades might be a fair bit different but in my opinion it’s just a whole other palette and I like the look of it. I really want to try their products.

    • True, like I said, it’s not an exact dupe, but the quality is definitely there.

  • Oh this is difficult. I’m all for dupes and love Makeup Revolution (I do already have a few of their palettes and they are amazing!) but sometimes you just want to be a little spoilt and treat yourself to the brand right:) x

  • Journa Liz Servito Ramirez

To be honest, I’m not good at choosing palette but this post helps me! Thanks for sharing this. Lovely colors!

  • Wow! These two pallettes really ARE similar! Next time I go to Ulta, I’m gonna check out the shades against my skin to see if it’s a match because these colors are so pretty. Thank you for sharing this!

  • Brittany Muddamalle

I love this pallet! All of the colors are so cute! I have been using a lot of shimmery colors lately and I’m obsessed. I’ve been using bold lip colors so it’s been perfect!

  • Phyrra Nyx

I hated the Sweet Peach palette. I couldn’t stand the smell. Glad you found a comparable dupe.

  • Robin

Wow, they are pretty similar. I like having money in my pocket so if I had to pick one I’d go with the MR Chocolate Vice palette for $15.

    • And right now Ulta has a buy one get one 50% so it’s even cheaper!

  • Kim

I had no clue which was the steal at first. I’m partial to the colors of the Too Faced palette. Both are nice though!

  • I’m pretty sure my daughters should buy me a new palette for Mother’s Day! I really like the MR Chocolate Vice!

  • Donna Shoots

Oooh I love a good makeup dupe! Thank you for this. The Makeup revolution palette colors look divine!

  • These both have colors I tend to gravitate towards – lots of lights, golds and bronzey browns. I think I’d totally be willing to start with giving Vice a try. What a fabulous price point!

After seeing your swatches, these palettes do look very similar. Now I think I will hold off on the too faced for a while and just get the makeup revloution one. Thansks for saving me a few bucks!

  • CourtneyLynne Storms

Woah!!! They really are very similar! I have the peach pallets and it’s been my go to lately. Glad to see a cheaper option with similar colors for when my peach pallets needs to be replaced

  • 1alwaysnyc1

I’d definitely pick the Makeup Revolution palette. While I pine over brands like Too Faced, I’d rather spend more on skincare (a function of my age! lol).

  • Cindi

I still prefer the Peach Palette. Great comparisons though!

  • Tapanga Perrin

I’ve never tried either of these pallets but will for sure be trying now. Great side my side comparison.

  • I completely agree with you – while TF Sweet Peach has cuter packaging, I find myself reaching for the MUR one more often. And, I love that the quality is consistent in all their palettes!
