Whether you are a fan of Bethenny Frankel or not you sure have to give her props for turning herself into a mega-brand. I remember her from way back when she was a chef and a runner-up on on Celebrity Apprentice: Martha Stewart. Soon after she appeared as one of the original Real Housewives of New York City. I really liked her then, she was witty, brutally honest and not at all impressed with herself.
Bethenny invented the SkinnyGirl Margarita–a “diet” cocktail. She promoted it and herself through the Real Housewives franchise as well as her own TV series until she sold the company last year (for a purported $120 million) to Beam, Inc.–I’m sure you’ve seen the “Drink Like a Lady” commercials.
So what is a driven entrepreneur like Ms. Frankel to do when she no longer has a company to run? I guess a husband and baby aren’t enough to keep her busy because Bethenny has recently launched a body and skin care line, shapewear, workout DVD’s, and a clothing line.
I can tell you one thing beauties, Bethenny Frankel’s Midas touch has ended with the Margarita Bath Kit ($15). Let’s take a closer look. The kit includes:
- Skinnygirl Margarita Shower Gel – the packaging should have a flip-top because it’s to hard to take the damn whole lid off in the shower. This is made even harder because the gel is so thick it plops out of the bottle. More importantly, a shower gel should actually LATHER! I had to use probably a third of the bottle to get a smidgen of suds–not acceptable.
- Skinnygirl Margarita Scrub – a scrub should have some beads, grains, SOMETHING to scrub with! This is a light gel with what LOOKS like a few sparse beads that do nothing.
- Skinnygirl Margarita Body Lotion – again, no flip-top, extremely thin. The lotion is the best of the three products and smells the best but I still wouldn’t repurchase it.
I don’t know how Bethenny drinks her margaritas but this does NOT smell like a margarita! It does not smell like limes nor anything remotely citrus, just kind of plastic and fake like the Boone’s Farm crap I used to drink in high school or maybe a rubber beach ball. I’ve smelled the Philosophy Margarita 3-in-1 shower gel and that smells good!
It’s apparent to me Bethenny was way too quick bringing this to market. The only good think I can say about this kit is that the outside packaging is cute. At $15 for the set, it’s not overly expensive–if the products actually WORKED! ANY drugstore body wash is better than Skinnygirl. Dove, Olay, Aveeno–all of them are better. Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 has a body wash and scrub in one that smells heavenly for about $7.99! Heck, why not add a few bucks and get a wonderful smelling Bath and Body Works set? BBW shower gels have lots of creamy lather!
I am SO disappointed in this very sub-par product! Good luck with the rest of your endeavors Bethenny, this one fails miserably–don’t waste your money on it beauties!Pin It
