I apologize for being so late bringing you the Shiseido Makeup Spring Summer 2012 Collection. Some of you have probably purchased some of these colorful products, but I was late to the party….again. With so many brands doing so much advertising one can lose sight of Shiseido who is known mostly for their skincare. Beauties, you don’t want that to happen! Shiseido is actually one of the oldest beauty brands in the world. I absolutely adore Brit Dick Page, artistic director for Shiseido. He is also responsible for many of the make-up looks at some of Fashion Week’s major shows – Marc by Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez and Michael Kors to name a few. “Makeup is a fun way to play with how you look and wish to be seen.” – Dick Page
I have two beauty fantasies; 1. to have Dick Page do my makeup and 2. to have Ted Gibson do my hair. The mere thought of these two events ever occuring during my lifetime gives me the vapors. I digress.
The collection features 7 new Shimmering Rouge Lisptick shades:
Shimmering Rouge Lipstick ($25)– New Shades
- PK214 Opal – a pale, luminous pink with a silvery violet glow
- PK415 Sorbet – a very pale icy pink
- OR316 Mango – a vivid golden orange
- BR317 Butterscotch – a rich warm beige
- RD718 Sugarplum – soft grayish red with an unusual hint of verdigris
- RS619 Venus – a deep reddish violet
- RD320 Temptress – a deep reddish brown with a hint of copper
I was given RD320 Temptress to try. First allow me to talk about the texture and coverage, umm..kay? It’s amazing. Oh, I should expound? Okay, these hybrid lipstick/glosses are creamy, moisturizing and long wearing. With one swipe the coverage can be sheer, a few more and lips are drenched in glossy color. Most sheer lipsticks are lacking in pigment, but not Shiseido Shimmering Rouge! The ‘shimmering’ description refers to the tiniest bit of shimmer that serves only to make lips look fuller and have some dimension. It’s juuuuust the right amount. The extra lightweight texture makes it very comfortable to wear.
When I opened the Temptress tube, I was scared. It seemed fairly dark and I didn’t think the depiction of deep reddish brown with copper wouldn’t really suit my skin tone. That description is spot on and the shade does work well with my fair skin. Keep in mind my lips are pretty much absent of color at all–maybe slightly beige/peach? I tried NARS Buenos Aries Velvet Gloss Pencil and it was the exact shade of my lips which made me look like a corpse–geez, even the un-dead have blood stained red lips for cripes sake!! Anywho, that gives you an idea of my natural lip color so a reddish brown shade will look different on someone with more pigmented lips, ‘natch. On me, Temptress pulls mostly deep coral/orange with a copper overlay and ever the slightest shimmer probably visible only in outdoor sun. It really is a beautiful shade and not at all what one thinks of in the summer–that’s the beauty of this Dick Page collection. It’s unexpectedly vibrant and vampy when most brands are going for the same old summer bronze or natural look.
Shiseido’s Shimmering Rouge Lipstick formula is similar to Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Natural lipsticks but longer lasting. I like this formula so much that I ordered OR316 Mango too. Can’t resist an orange/coral!! The formula with it’s subdued shimmer and moisturizing abilities is perfect for over 40 women. Packaging is elegant in a deep grey metal tube.
The collection also includes three new Shimmering Cream Eye Shadows ($25):
The shades are inspired by Mr. Page’s photographs from his travels. These cream eye shadows have a lustrous finish and are touted to stay put without smudging or creasing for 16 hours. If they are anything like the cream HydroPower shadows, I believe it! The formula hydrates skin with Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE. I have OR316 Sunshower on order and will post when I receive it.
Here is the Summer look Mr. Page created with this collection. I can’t wait to try it when I get my order.
