Shiseido launches a very special anniversary item this year. It is the Camellia Compact for Fall/Winter 2012 ($36), designed to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the major Japanese hair care and cosmetics brand. In addition to the limited edition Shiseido Camellia Compact, the brand will revamp the original packaging of their famous Eudermine lotion and release the Zen Secret Bloom, a limited edition scent.
Shiseido’s trademark camellia motif is part of Shiseido’s culture. In addition to the camellia being a long beloved plant in Japan, it was the favorite flower of Shiseido’s first president, Shinzo Fukuhara. The camellia logo first appeared in 1915, after Shinzo himself designed the prototype for it. The bloom pointing upward represents aspiratio, while the camellia that points down represents modesty. The idea is that by balancing these virtues on the inside, a person can achieve true beauty.
Shiseido’s Camellia Compact is a limited edition offering arriving at counters and online in October. The compact boasts three beautiful shades, Petal Pink, Rich Rose and Cool Platinum arranged in the shape of overlapping camellias. The colors can be swirled together or used individually as blush, contour or highlighter. The product arrives in a sleek black luxurious case, embellished with the signature motif.
The texture is smooth, creamy and highly pigmented. As you can see, the shimmer is overspray–I couldn’t wait to try it so I swatched it before I took the pictures–that’s why the shimmer is not on the rose section.
These colors are beautiful and impart a lovely radiance whether blended or used separately. Apply the platinum shade at the top of cheekbones for a soft glow. I recommend using a duo fiber or skunk brush building up the color as you go.
