A few weeks ago I nominated SENNA Cosmetics as my current favorite Indie brand in a Makeup Wars post. I am so impressed with the brand, when I heard they had a new foundation, SENNA Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation ($44) I was extremely anxious to try it! The Winter Do You Dare Collection (reviewed here) was spectacular and their lipsticks and glosses are always at the top of my list.
Foundations can be tricky for us over 40 gals. We need something that won’t sink into pores, accentuate wrinkles, or look thick and dry. Good news beauties, the SENNA Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation may be our answer! To be truthful, SENNA had me at “satin matte.” It’s hard for me to find the right finish for my combination skin. A “dewy” finish makes me look oily, a normal “matte” finish settles into my lines and makes my skin look dry. Satin matte is perfect for me; a smooth silky finish without any shine! It captures and reflects light while diffusing skin imperfections like wrinkles and fine lines to give a youthful appearance. It does NOT settle into fine lines, pores, or any other flaws. The coverage is medium, but still enough to cover the redness in my cheeks, although I still need a bit concealer so I would it is shy of full coverage. It feels extremely light and comfortable on the skin. Just a dab of Laura Mercier’s translucent setting powder on my T-zone and my complexion is as close to flawless as it’s going to get short of surgery! I hate how this phrase is SO misused “it looks as if I’ve been airbrushed” but I’m tellin’ ‘ya, that is pretty damn close to being true in the case.
SENNA Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation comes in in 7 shades:
- Alabaster, pale ivory for fair skin tones
- Buff, light beige for light skin tones
- Sand, natural beige for medium skin tones
- Beige, cool beige for medium/tan skin tones
- Golden Beige, warm medium/tan for skin tones
- Tan, for medium dark skin t0nes
- Chestnut, dark tan for deeper skin tones
I was sent Buff to try which is just slightly too light. My perfect shade is Sand, but Buff works with a teeny bit of bronzer. This foundation is very long lasting –I got 12+ hours out of it.
On to the packaging. One of the things I appreciate about the SENNA brand is not only the quality of the products, but the luxury packaging. You all know by now that I’m a sucker for nice packaging. Every SENNA product has the signature black lace design–very feminine and elegant. Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation is housed in a beautiful glass jar with a pump–something else I really appreciate. A pump jar not only keeps the product sanitary but controls waste too.

Bottom Line: SENNA Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation is a great foundation option for over 40 women. It has a beautiful finish, stays put after a long day and covers well while still feeling light as air!
