Sometimes I really wish I lived in a bit city instead of a small town. Preferably a city with a Planet Beauty in it. There are currently currently 34 Planet Beauty locations spanning from Southern Orange County well into the Sacramento area. Inside the 2,000 square foot plush boutiques you’ll find a haven dripping with the most sought after beauty products on the market, including: Dr. Perricone, Pureology, Colorproof, BareMinerals, Smashbox, Jane Iredale, Dermalogica, GHD, OPI, Peter Thomas Roth, and more!
I only have an Ulta that does not get product in a timely manner (hello, summer selections are not here yet?) and I am more knowledgeable than the staff. Planet Beauty is proud to say that many of their beauty advisors are licensed estheticians, hair stylists and/or certified makeup artists. They even have an education department to ensure all of the beauty advisors remain on top of the latest trends in the beauty world.
Planet Beauty provided the following product to me but all opinions are my own.
Too Faced No Makeup Makeup Fresh and Flawless Face Palette ($39)was a Spring 2013 release but I happen to think it’s perfect for summer. No one wants to walk around in heavy foundation and an overdone full face of makeup in the hot humid months but we ALWAYS want to look flawless, am I right? As over 40 women we know achieving that flawless, “I was born looking like a supermodel” look actually takes an inordinate amount of time and effort plus a train case full of products. Too Faced No Makeup Makeup Fresh and Flawless Face Palette makes it easy AND convenient to get that natural look with just 6 little products all in one darling tin. Genius!
Included in the palette are:
Bronzing Veil–a shimmery bronzer perfect for us fair ladies. For darker skin, this would make a great highlighter. Apply lightly at temples under the cheekbone and along the jawline to create warmth to the face and contour. This is one pan of peachy golden tan lovliness!
Creme Blush – a pretty rosy medium pink with a slight staining effect. Tap on the apples of the cheeks.
Powder Blush – this is a pale shimmery pink designed to be worn over the creme blush and then blended into the hairline. The powder helps the creme blush last longer and adds a bit of dimension to the face.
Conceal -use under eyes or anywhere you have redness or blemishes. This concealer is very light and creamy.
Luminize – a very creamy cool icy pinkish white highlighter. I was surprised at how much I like this, I’m usually not one for highlighters but this is so subtle I really like it. I used it in all the typical places; on the brow bone, on top of cheekbones, above the cupid’s bow but also above my eyebrows to get a lifted look.
Brighten – this is my favorite of the palette. It really brightens up the eye area nicely without looking like you tanned with your sunglasses on. Here’s an application trick from Too Faced: Use the Small Crease Brush from the Professional Brush Set to apply Brightener in the shape of a triangle, with the point of the triangle on each cheekbone directly below the pupil. Buff out the edges of the triangle for a soft, brightening effect on the face.
Conceal is very hard to see since it matches my skin tone so well, but it’s right by that big brown spot on my arm. That is the only drawback to this palette–it is more suitable for pale or medium skins tones. I think some of these shades will be too light for darker skins. Pssst, Too Faced…make this palette is a variety of shades, m’kay?
Not only did Too Faced give us all the essentials for a no makeup look but they also thoughtfully included a card with a tutorial for three looks:
- The Wake Up Makeup Look: simple and natural-looking
- Nude Radiance: color on the cheek
- Red Carpet Contour: a full-on, dramatic look
Here’s the funny part–I tried the Wake Up Makeup look and took pics but they really didn’t turn out well because…well it was so natural looking! So you’re just going to have to trust me when I say I was very pleased with the results. This palette is ideal for over 40 women because it has all the face products you need in one place. I call it my “over 40 toolbox.”
Bottom Line: I love this palette; for the shades, the convenience, the quality, the practical packaging (the tin) and most of all the results it gives! Contouring can literally change and enhance the shape of your face, but it is one of the hardest things for us amateurs to learn. With the step-by-step instructions included, it’s a snap! This palette is a fabulous “toolbox’ for over 40 women!
Darker skinned beauties this one may not be for you. I suggest swatching it first to see how these shades work with your skin.
