Review: BECCA Blotting Powder Perfector

BECCA’s Blotting Powder Perfector ($38) is saving my life AND my face this summer. While I don’t have oily skin, per sé, my oil glands start working overtime when the warm weather hits (at least something on this half decrepit body is working). I get SITZS–Shiny Icky T-Zone Syndrome and I HATE it. Some of my friends with really dry skin just don’t abide my complaints about a little bit of shine, but they probably wouldn’t have liked the Valdez oil spill residing on their forehead all through high school either.

Blotting Powder Perfector is a translucent oil-absorbing powder that mattifies and sets makeup for an all-day soft focus look. The texture is micro-fine and too powdery; it controls shine without any noticeable color or texture. It has a velvety smooth finish to even skin tone and minimize pores.

Not only do I love that this powder is translucent, but I really appreciate the blend of silica beads that gives it such a lightweight texture. It just melts into my skin and you can NOT tell I have powder on. It does come in a tinted version but I prefer the translucent, especially in summer when I wearing bronzer. I’ve been using this over my IT Cosmetics CC cream, reviewed here. The CC cream is a tad too moisturizing for my T-zone during these dog days of summer so a few dabs of this powder on my forehead, nose & chin and I get a flawless oil-free complexion!

Packaging is the typical BECCA space saucer; rubber bottom, metal top with a full sized mirror and powder puff inside. Bonus points for including a handy-dandy zippered pouch so it doesn’t get lost or crumble in your makeup bag!

BECCA Blotting Powder Perfector has no oil, parabens or fragrance. Available at or Sephora.

BECCA Stylist Tip: any gloss or lipstick can be transformed into a matte finish by applying a light dusting of Blotting Powder Perfector over gloss or lipstick!

Bottom Line: BECCA’s Blotting Powder Perfector does double-duty: it’s a blotting powder and a lightweight setting powder all in one. The translucent version absorbs well so you don’t look ghostly and does an excellent job of keeping the oil at bay.
