Sunscreen is extremely important to me and I use it everyday, however it is an extra step and I’m always looking for shortcuts in my morning routine. Avéne High Protection Tinted Compact has an SPF of 50 ($32) allowing me to skip this extra step. It’s formulated with 100% mineral sunscreen and photo-stable Vitamin E for powerful antioxidant and non-irritating sun protection in one compact. The formula also includes the iconic Avène Thermal Spring Water.  Avène Thermal Spring Water has been clinically proven by over 300 studies to calm, soothe and soften the skin. Used since 1743 in the Hydrotherapy Center to treat serious dermatological conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.

Although at my age, I prefer liquid foundation as opposed to creme, however I found Avéne High Protection Tinted Compact SPF of 50 to be extremely easy to wear. I did apply a lightweight moisturizer underneath and used the enclosed sponge. I was able to use one application minimal coverage then dab a bit more on to conceal any redness or dark spots I have. The creamy texture and the sponge applicator allow for your desired amount of coverage–it’s very buildable. You can also wet the sponge for very sheer coverage.

I really love the finish–it’s matte but not cakey and makes my skin look über smooth and flawless. It starts out as a creme and dries down to a silky powder. For my slightly dry skin I do need to add moisturizer underneath. And here’s a bonus–it still looks fresh after 8 hours!

Packaging is a plastic compact with two compartments. The first contains the sponge and the second is a full sized mirror along with the creme foundation.

There are only two shades available–Beige and Honey. I tried beige and was sure from the  shade in the compact that it would be way too dark for my fair skin but it actually works. Another plus is that even though this foundation has a very high level of SPF, it doesn’t leave a whitish cast on my skin. After applying, I let it set a bit and the shade as well as the texture seem to melt into my skin giving me a very natural “no makeup” look.

Bottom Line: I am pleasantly surprised at how much I like this foundation. Silky smooth finish, high SPF and easy to apply–what’s not to like? Over 40 gals are going to love it! I do wish it came in more shades, although I think beige will be suitable for many skin tones.
