November Birchbox – Did It Make Marcia’s Heart Go Pitter Pat?

Today’s post is from my very good friend Marcia over at Beauty Info Zone.  She has excellent taste in cosmetics, is a sweet as pie and is beauty-sample-box-addicted.

My guest post today for Prime Beauty is another subscription box since I’m slightly (ahem) addicted to them. I’ve subscribed to Birchbox for over a year now, as a matter of fact they sent me a small keychain as a thank you for being a long term subscriber. November’s Birchbox has its ups and downs which seems to be the norm with the box each month. Each month it seems that there’s always something I like and always something I dislike plus a few stuck in the middle. It appears to me from what I see of the Birchbox subscriptions is that there are about 2 or 3 variations each month.

I’m pretty sure that Birchbox  along with the other subscription boxes, remain at the mercy of the brands. Since a Birchbox subscription is $10 a month they aren’t buying many things to send us. Instead my guess is that the samples are donations for the publicity aspect. I don’t know this for a fact, it’s just an educated guess.

My November box contained 1 full size item along with 3 small samples and a small sweet treat.  The highlight of the box is the full size ModelCo mascara. I love experimenting with new mascaras and this one looks great. It’s called Fibre LASHXTEND, it’s a very deep black. The other side of the wand has a mirror on it for people who carry their mascara with them.

Of the samples one is top notch while the two others aren’t for me at all. I’m excited about the Miracle Skin Transformer Vanish sample. MST is one of my favorite brands and this is their newest skin product. It’s a serum infused primer with optical diffusers to mask imperfections.

There’s also a vial of Rose Anonyme Cologne Absolue in a sheer packet with a pretty postcard.  In addition there’s a packet of Lulu Organics hair powder that’s like a dry shampoo. I’m sure some people would find those two handy, especially for travel, but it’s not my style since I don’t use fragranced products. There’s also a small box that can be used as a gift box. It contained a little sample from Chuao Chocolatier, a chocolate covered potato chip (but who can eat just one?).  Last there’s a card for $15 off a pair of Chromatic heels at that’s valid through 12/31/12. These heels are $88 each though. The code you can use is BIRCHFRIEND15.

All in all it’s worth the $10 this monthly subscription costs but it didn’t make my heart go pitter patter. I always say “just one more month” and I’m saying that again. Are you a Birchbox subscriber? Do you subscribe to any beauty sample kits?
