New! Too Faced White Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve purchased an eyeshadow palette from Too Faced– Sweet Peach was the last one. I skipped the entire holiday collection because I’ve found that the last few years the quality of the holiday offerings has not been up to par. I don’t know if brands cut costs by sacrificing quality to make the holiday kits more affordable or if they splurge on the packaging and not the eyeshadow formulas but I’ve learned my lesson.

The Too Faced White Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette ($49) is a new limited edition palette that was released on Sephora online early for VIB and Rouge members and for the public on 11/23.  Packaging is the same as all the Chocolate Bar palettes– a darling tin box that looks like a candy bar with a mirror. Outside packaging is a cute cardboard box with pink and white stripes that look like peppermint. The shade names are written on the palette which I appreciate. For those of you worried about the scent, (white chocolate) my palette was very subtle though the scent does vary from palette to palette. The palette consists of 16 matte and shimmer finishes with a pastel theme and a ‘glamour guide’ to create looks.

Inspired by the success of the deluxe sized White Chocolate Bar, we created this confection of powdered sugar pastels, creamy nudes and a pop of black sugar to keep things sexy. Experience the full-sized power of our White Chocolate Chip Eyeshadow palette, with 5 new cocoa-powder infused shades that are guaranteed to turn heads.

When I stray from my beloved neutrals, I love soft romantic looks so I thought this palette would be perfect for that. I have to say I am disappointed with the quality of this palette. The matte shades are fine texture wise but they are not very pigmented and take a lot of building up to see any color. Some of the shimmers are infused with glitter and feel a bit chunky and have fallout. All the shadows, matte and shimmery are extremely powdery, I actually had to turn the palette upside down to tap off the excess.

 Top Row:

  • Mint Chocolate
  • Glaze
  • Cake Batter
  • Exotica
  • Chocolate Syrup

Middle Row:

  • Pearl Candy
  • Raspberry Rose
  • Indulge
  • Lavender Cake
  • Guilt-Free
  • Smoked Sea Salt

Bottom Row:

  • Frosted Apricot
  • Cookie Dough
  • Sugared Raisin
  • Black Sugar
  • Banana Date

Pearl Candy and Sugared Raisin felt a bit gritty and produced lots of fallout–when used with a wet brush the fallout did lessen, however they do not translate well on the eyes. I was SO excited for the shade sugared raisin which looks like a shimmery taupey/pink but shows up as white on my eyes and has way too much glitter. Same with Indulge. Pearl Candy doesn’t have any glitter but it has a gritty texture. I do like the shimmery Exotica, a shimmery peachy pink and I wish the other shimmer shades has this texture.

I admit I bought the Too Faced White Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette for the Mint Chocolate and Lavender Cake shades plus the adorable packaging. Lavender Cake has terrible pigmentation–it sheers out to nothing and when I try to build it up, it turns gray. Mint Chocolate at least doesn’t go muddy but it needs to be layered three times to be visible as does Chocolate Syrup and Smoked Sea Salt–two more shades I had high hopes for. Guilt-Free isn’t pigmented at all and blends away to nothing. Cake Batter is a nice crease shade as is Cookie Dough and they are some of the better performers in the palette. Raspberry Rose is a pretty shimmer pink and Frosted Apricot is a pretty apricot shade with subtle iridescent flakes. The two larger base shades Glaze and Banana Date are okay.

I created this simple look by using Glaze as an all-over base, Chocolate Syrup in the crease and Sugared Raisin on the lid. I also used Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach blush, Eddie Funkhouser bronzer, Soap & Glory mascara and Tarte Lip Sculptor in Trinket (set reviewed here). You can see some of the fallout under my eyes.

This time I tried Glaze as an all over base again, Cake Batter in the crease (had to layer 3 times), Chocolate Syrup in the outer corner but it wasn’t pigmented enough so I have to add Smoked Sea Salt to darken it up. I used Mint Chocolate wet under the lower lash line and I realized I have an Ardency Inn eyeliner in Jade that is the exact same shade so I put that on my waterline. You can see some of the fallout in the second pic.

Since Mint Chocolate is one of the reasons I bought this palette, I tried another look with it. I used it in the crease with Frosted Apricot on the lid. I’m not happy with the way it turned out. To me, the shadows look dry and chalky on my eyes. What do you think? So I liked 2 out of 3 looks I created–not good enough for me. Keep in mind this palette is good for fair and light skin tones–I can’t see it working for darker skin.

Bottom Line: the Too Faced White Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette is a disappointment and I was SO excited to get it! Yes, you can make it work but there are some shades I will never use because of the gritty texture, amount of glitter and fallout. The shades I do like aren’t pigmented enough. Too Faced disappointed me again–I may be able to tolerate this palette if it was $25 but not $49–I expect better. I don’t return makeup often, but this is going back!

What a great eye shadow set this is! I love all the colors that are included in this set!!

  • I love the name of this eye shadow set! It would make a great gift for anyone because it’s got so many great color choices.

    • Except that the shades are not pigmented enough.

  • I’m so bummed that the shadows don’t live up because I really dig the shades.

  • Cindi

I love those shades. Those would be perfect for some soft spring looks. It’s too bad the shadow isn’t pigmented enough. I like your eye look.

    • I had to layer each shade at least 3 times to get them to show up.

  • Beth Davidson

These shadows seem like something you should eat, not wear, based on the names. Lol. Although by your description I’m guessing they wouldn’t be too tasty either.

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

Your eye look is very pretty. I’m all about the green at the lower lash line. But too bad the palette was a disappointment. I bought the matte peach palette (tho I also have Sweet Peach) as well as a few other small palettes recently so I am done.

    • Sweet Peach was great but I haven’t like a TF eyeshadow palette since then.

  • Cassie Liz

I love that it comes in the shape of a chocolate bar – how adorable!! I really love the colours – especially that lavender one! Can’t wait to try

    • Too bad the lavender shade doesn’t show up on the eyes at all, it was one of my fav shades.

  • Too bad it didn’t deliver like how you expected it! Too Faced has always been amazing when it comes to packaging. Oh well, better luck next time for them!

    • That’s right. I’m about ready to give up on them.

  • Oh no it is such a shame that the palette was not pigmented and while the swatches look great its a shame there is so much fall out! What a shame x

    • Too Faced should be ashamed at the low quality.

  • Laura @ MommyDearest

It’s such a shame that it didn’t deliver as expected. The colours look great in the palette. I love the green on the lower lash. Thanks for testing it out,

  • marciaf

The lack of pigment is shocking. I’ve given up on TF though since it’s such an uneven brand. I’m sorry that what looked beautiful turned out to be a disappointment.

    • I know, too many misses the last few years.

  • Kristina

I love these colors! I love eyeshadow and would love this palette. So many colors to choose from for outfits!!

  • Phyrra Nyx

That palette is so pathetic. It makes me sad.

  • Anne C

Thanks for the review! I’ll pass on this one.

  • polarbelle

Bummer!! I just saw the Chocolate Gold palette in store today and I think I might go for that one. I love that green on you, tho.

    • That would be a better choice. I wanted something different and now I’m crushed!

  • Journa Ramirez

This palette makes me feel disappointed. The names of each color are so clever though.

  • Krystal Butherus

These color palettes are so awesome! I love the variety. Makes picking a color a lot more easier.

    • I’m returning it, the shadows do not perform well at all.

  • Jeanine @ sixtimemommy.com

Oh my goodness. Now these are some colours I could see myself playing with. They look incredible on too!

    • But they take a LOT of work to show up on skin–too much work.

  • As soon as I saw this palette, I loved the shade selection. But, I totally knew it would be a dud formula wise 🙁 There palettes have been SO disappointing! Such a shame, because the colors and packaging of this is way too cute. I hope they put a little more effort into their formula soon.

  • Sorry about this turning out to be a disappointment! It looked so promising especially after seeing the colors!

  • Lola Seicento

Such a shame! It’s such a pretty palette, but it definitely sounds like a big disappointment!

    • I’ve been disappointed in Too Faced a lot lately.

  • halley

Oh this palette has some interesting colors, I may get it for my little sister for christmas.

  • Emily

You had me at white chocolate bar, what a fun idea. All of these colors are beautiful! I don’t wear eyeshadow a lot but when I do it’s fun to try new colors!

    • If only they showed up on skin like they do in the pan!

  • I always thought too faced would be good because they have such a big name, but I have been pretty disappointed with their eyeshadow.

  • I am so out of the loop and had no idea this was coming out! The original chocolate bar is one of my favorites, so I will have to scoop this one up!

  • redheadmomblog

I saw this when they first released it for Rouge members at Sephora to purchase and it wasn’t a must-have item. Then when I saw it at Sephora, I just didn’t love it. The cars just seemed too light, but that’s how I felt about the White Chocolate Chip Palette (the small one) too.

  • I actually love all these colors and it would make a perfect pallette for me. I already have two to use up before I get more.

  • Reesa Lewandowski

This is the kind of palette that I would love! It’s not too flashy, but just the right amount of color!

  • Stephanie Pass

I love Too Faced products. This one looks super cute as a chocolate bar, and I just love the colors.

    • I wish it had more pigment and performed better.

  • Kimberly Lewis (Lou Lou Girls)

I love all the colors! My 15 year old would have so much fun with this!

    • Skip it and get her a Makeup Revolution palette at Ulta–much cheaper and better quality.

  • TColeman

This palette has got some amazing colors. I am going to have to pick this up for sure.

  • Thank you for such an honest review. I bought the white chocolate palette last year and I loved it and I was excited about the release this year but you’re the second person who has said the shadow isn’t pigments enough. I think I’ll pass this year.

  • I just hopped over to the Sephora site to order this for a friend! Thanks for sharing, it’s exactly what I wanted for a makeup loving friend’s holiday gift.

  • Thanks for your honest review. I didn’t know Too Faced came out with this palette. I really like their original palette. I hope Sephora would allow you to return it.

  • SUCH a disappointment! I hear you — I was eyeing this palette for that green shade, too! It looked pretty good on your lower lash line…but in your crease it doesn’t pack enough of a punch of color 🙁 Bummer!
