bareMinerals bareSkin

Leave it to bareMinerals to revolutionize the concept of foundation AGAIN! bareMinerals bareSkin Serum Foundation is both a mineral foundation and a skincare serum in one. It provides coverage as it treats your skin. Sound similar to a BB cream? Well it’s not. bareSkin has lots more coverage than a BB cream which is good news for me and most over 40 beauties. It is however, extremely lightweight on the skin–it truly does NOT feel like you have makeup on. The consistency is unlike any foundation I’ve ever tried–it is very thin and watery and the first time I used it I used waaay to much. I thought I needed a lot to cover the redness in my skin and my dark spots, but I learned quickly that just isn’t the case. A few drops on the special brush (which you do NEED) is all it takes to cover your entire face with a little extra for spot coverage on problem areas.

“Clinically proven tone-correcting mineral foundation and brightening serum in one. Created with exceptional purity in mind, this ultra-thin, skin-perfecting fluid provides seamless adjustable coverage, a natural finish and the look and feel of beautiful skin while delivering a noticeably brighter, more youthful appearance. Made with the bare minimum ingredients and formulated without oil, silicone, parabens or fragrance. It’s like nothing you’ve ever felt before.”

bareMinerals bareSkin Serum Foundation is supposed to be for all skin types but honestly, I cannot see it working for someone with oily skin. It felt slightly greasy to me and I have combination skin. You must shake the bottle vigorously before applying to make sure the pigment does not separate from the fluid.  It does glide on the skin nicely but I felt it wasn’t really “sticking” to my face–like it was going to slide off. It looks somewhat  matte upon contact, but then transforms into a dewy finish after application. I’m not that crazy about dewy finishes on my skin as I feel they make me look greasy, although I will say this is the best dewy finish I have tried–it’s not overly shiny. bareMinerals claims the coverage is customizable but as I mentioned, the more I used, the worse it got. I think I used about six drops the first time I tried it and I looked like I had a cakey mask on. The second time with 2-3 drops was much better, however, the coverage was very sheer–nice for summer but I will want more coverage for fall and winter.

bareMinerals Face Perfector Brush

The Perfecting Face Brush is a MUST with this foundation. Applying with your fingertips or a sponge just doesn’t cut it with this foundation. The brush is specially designed with a “well” in the middle to hold the watery foundation making to easier to apply and buff. It works quite well and I definitely suggest picking it up if you try the foundation–it imparts a more natural look by buffing on.

Combining skincare with foundation isn’t a new idea, look at how many BB and CC creams are on the market. When bareMinerals does things, though I’ve found they usually do it right.

Unfortunately bareMinerals bareSkin isn’t for me, I prefer a more stain finish and I need a foundation to last all day. bareSkin was gone from my chin by lunch time and my cheeks by about 5 pm. When I touched my face, I felt it was going to come off on my fingers and I did notice that it indeed did transfer to my collar. I haven’t noticed any brightening effect–maybe that will come with more continued use. Most bloggers are raving about it, but it just doesn’t work for my skin. I think it would be great for beauties with dry skin, especially those with very dry skin.

bareSkin Bare Natural

  • No brightening effect (it may take quite some time)
  • Did not stay in place all day, wore off in spots

Bottom Line: bareMinerals bareSkin Serum Foundation provides sheer coverage, good for your skin ingredients and a nice finish. For me, the fact that it didn’t last on my skin was a deal breaker. Those with drier skin types might love it!

  • Shipra

Wow, that looks terrific! You look beautiful! <3

  • Phyrra

I love the finish of this but it wouldn’t last on my skin

    • cindy

      That’s my exact problem.

  • Nidia – Lit From Within

I was super excited by this concept.. but I’ve just seen too many reviews about it just sliding off! I have oily skin, so I doubt it would work for me. I hope they can reformulate it so that it has better staying power.

    • cindy

      Me too!

  • Ange

It looks great on you, I’m sad that there’s no brightening though!

    • cindy

I would imagine it takes some time to see the effects.

    • cindy

      Me too!

  • Erika

It looks beautiful in your photograph.

I am very, very dry, this may be worth a try for me. It may be longer lasting for me, since my skin doesn’t get oily and eat my makeup. Hmmm…

    • cindy

You should give it a try Erika!

  • Leelo R

I think it looks great on you. But too bad it doesn´t stay on your skin all day :(

    • cindy

I know, I wished it lasted longer.

  • Ashley

You sealed the deal for me on this foundation. I’m not too thrilled about the brush being a necessity and the fact that it didn’t last on your skin makes it a pass for me. Thank you for the honest review!

  • Miranda

Wait.. I seriously need that brush. My favorite foundations are really liquidy and that would be perfect!

  • destany

Thanks for the review! My on the cusp of aging skin is in need of something like this.

  • Brooke @ Blushing Noir

I bought this and the brush a few weeks ago but haven’t tried it. My skin can be pretty oily so now I’m nervous lol

  • Mamavalveeta03

You look beautiful, Cindy, but then again, you always do! I’m with you on this: It would never last on my suddenly oily skin(Gee, thanks, menopause!). To be honest, I’m just not that impressed with Bare Minerals. Except for their Buxom and Moxie glosses…love those!

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

Thanks for an honest review. I haven’t read anything good about this product. I’ll pass on this one!

  • Erin

I can’t picture this on a hot, summer day with my oily skin or large pores! Thanks for being honest. Now I can spend the money on something else, heh heh.

  • Kimmi @ The Plastic Diaries

    It looks great on you

  • Melody Wright

I wanted to try this but the reviews on Sephora said it wasn’t that great for oily skin.

  • Sheila (Painted Ladies)

Thanks for the review. I’ve been sooooooo curious but I think I’ll skip it – the brush looks fab, though.

  • Kim

I think it looks great on you. The brush is interesting. Too bad it doesn’t last throughout the day.

  • Anastasia

I’ve been dying to try this new foundation!

  • Kendra

Bummer that it didn’t work that great. What brush are you using?

    • cindy

I used the brush that came with it–the formula just isn’t right for my skin but I can see it working for others.

  • Stepanie Louise

I have dry skin so I’m planning to give this a go!

  • Betzy Carmona

I probably won’t tried this because of the formula and the fact that it stains clothes
