Those of you who know me or have been reading this blog for awhile know of my obsession/compulsion/addiction/fascination with mascara. It is one of the most ancient cosmetics known, having been used in Egypt possibly as early as 4000 b.c.–I’m usre you’ve all heard of kohl. My obsession with mascara began as a child when I started dance–I think it could have been earlier…like in the womb.
Mascara is one of the easiest way to get noticed–one little product packs a whole lotta punch. You can change your look with the type of mascara you choose;
Doe eyed & innocent
Natural & whispy
Drag Queen (my personal fav)
Mascara comes in upteen billion different formulas, textures, colors and applicators. There is something undenilably sexy and alluring about a thick fringe of lashes. Period. My compulsion has led me to try several new mascaras recently so I thought I would let you in on some of the not-so-common ones.
IT Cosmetics Hello Lashes! ($29 for two) is a brand-y spankin’ new innovation from the creator of IT Cosmetics, Jamie Kern. It launches exclusively on QVC this month. Jamie takes her formulations seriously and often consults with plastic surgeons to bring the latest technology as well as multi-tasking ingredients to her products. Hello Lashes! is being touted as a 5-in-1 treatment product designed to eliminate the need for a lash conditioner, primer, lash comb/curler, lash growth serum and tint.
First let’s talk about the packaging. I appreciate attention to detail and that is exactly what is at play here. The tube is big, wide and has an easy foam-grip handle making it easier to hold on was well as comfortable to use–me likey! The wand itself has a ball ‘detailer’ on the end to ensure every teeny tiny inside and outside lash is attended to. I use the ball detailer to add a little extra to the ends of my lashes too because BIGGER is better! It takes some getting used to–you need to hold the wand vertically on the inner corners but it captures every. Single. Lash. The rest of the wand has plastic bristles that vary in length allowing good separation as well as helping to retain a curl. The pigment is a glossy jet black. I got absolutely zero clumps–even with 2-3 coats and this mascara lasted a good 12 hours with no smudging or flaking.
I’m also impressed with the formula–it’s the perfect consistency–not so thick as to cause clumps, but not so thin that it doesn’t plump lashes. I get great length, great separation, good volume, deep dark color and my lashes feel conditioned. Removal is easy with my Almay Eye Makeup Remover Pads.
Here’s the rundown on the technology:
- Grow-Luxe™ Complex - peptides and apple stem cells to encourage lash growth
- Hydra-Luxe™ Technology to condition your lashes
- Proteins to treat and thicken lashes
- Lash-protective vitamins and antioxidants including Vitamins A, C, E, and Pro Vitamin B-5
- Acai, hydro-collagen, beeswax, and green tea for antioxidant protection and to provide lash length and volume
The nasty stuff that’s NOT in it; Paraben-free, fragrance-free and oil-free. While I cannot attest to the lash growth because I’ve only used it for about a week, I can definitely feel the conditioning properties in Hello Lashes! –not a dry or brittle lash in site–my lashes feel softer than they ever have!
Bottom Line: IT Cosmetics has done it again–made a high performing, multi-tasking product that is not effective as a lengthening mascara but as an effective lash conditioner as well. Hell Lashes is available at QVC and QVC.com debuting this month.
Prime Beauty Grade: A- would like to see more volume, but very impressive!
