I know the contouring trend has been going strong for a few years now, but I haven’t really jumped on the bandwagon. I use highlighter because I love glowing skin. If I don’t want to look like I’m from the land of the living dead, I add a touch of bronzer.  When the Beauty Junkees Contour and Highlighting Makeup Palette, $24.97, arrived at my door I figured it was time to give contouring a try.

This is the first time I’ve used products from Beauty Junkees, so I wanted to learn more about the company. Founder Julia Ritzenthaler was inspired to start Beauty Junkees after a visit with professional makeup artist revealed Julia didn’t know as much about makeup as she thought.  She wanted to create a company that provided women with honest reviews of beauty products so they could make more informed purchasing decisions. Today, the USA-based company has branched out to include products like makeup sponges, brushes, eyeshadows, and more.

Contour and Highlighting Makeup Palette – $24.97

Beauty Junkees Contour and Highlighting Makeup Palette

The Beauty Junkees Contour and Highlighting Makeup Palette features six pressed matte powders, which are cruelty, gluten, and paraben-free. The powders come in a travel-friendly, solidly made cardboard palette with a magnetic closure. The size of the palette is a definite perk. Unlike other contour palettes on the market, this one is nice and compact. Plus, all six powders can be removed and refilled as needed.

In addition to contouring and highlighting, Beauty Junkees also recommends using the palette as foundation, eye shadow, and as a brow definer. You know how I like my multi-tasking products, so this is a huge bonus for me.

As a pale girl, I’ve usually shy away from contour palettes. I never feel like the darker shades will work well on my skin. I thought this was going to be the case with the Beauty Junkees Contour and Highlighting Palette, but I was wrong. The warm, neutral browns of Fawn, Java and, Truffle are perfect for my skin tone. They happen to be my favorite shades in the palette. I really like how smoothly they apply and blend out to create a nice natural contoured look.

The highlight shades in Banana, Vanilla, and Sand also blend and apply as smoothly as the contour shades. I am surprised by how well Sand, the darker of the three, works the best on my skin. It allows me to create perfectly highlighted skin. Yellow-toned Banana and pink-toned Vanilla, are almost a little too light for my pale skin. They do work well on areas of my face where I want a more subtle highlight.

Brow Concealer & Highlighter Duo Pencil Crayon – $14.97

Beauty Junkees Brow Concealer & Highlighter Duo Pencil Crayon

Beauty Junkees was also kind enough to send me two additional products, including their Brow Concealer & Highlighter Duo Pencil Crayon in Warm Beige. (The duo is also available in Cool.) The duo features a matte and shimmer eyebrow shaper, which are also cruelty, paraben, and gluten-free.

The matte side of the duo is designed to help for crafting perfectly shaped brows, while the shimmer side adds a natural lift to your brow bone. I’m not a fan of the overly defined brows, so I use the crayons for the lifting purposes only. I really like the convenience of the crayon, as well as its smooth, creamy formulation. Unfortunately, the Warm Beige/Gold colors are too dark for me so they didn’t work on this pale girl. I’d be curious to try the Cool crayon, as those colors are better suited for pale skin.

Beauty Junkees Lip Pumice Stick Exfoliator – $10

Beauty Junkees Lip Pumice Stick Exfoliator

I was excited to find the Lip Pumice Stick Exfoliator in my Beauty Junkees my goodie bag. I love a good lip exfoliator, especially when it comes in a stick form. It’s even better when it’s paraben, gluten, and cruelty-free.

What I like most about this stick exfoliator is that moisturizes and exfoliates my dry lips. When I’m ready to apply my lippie, I simply wipe it off to remove dead skin cells and hydrated lips. If you wear a lot of matte or liquid lipsticks, I highly recommend giving this pumice stick a try. It will help make application of those lip products a lot smoother.

Beauty Junkees Look

Overall:  If you’re looking to support a women-owned company, who also makes affordable, cruelty-free beauty products, I recommend checking out Beauty Junkees. (Available on Amazon or the Beauty Junkee website.) I found the Contour and Highlighting Makeup Palette, Lip Pumice Stick Exfoliator, and Brow Concealer & Highlighter Duo Pencil Crayon to be well formulated and apply smoothly and evenly. The palette and pumice stick are quickly becoming staples in my makeup routine.

I’m not an expert on makeup so I don’t know much about contouring and highlights. I just wear eyeshadow, mascara and foundation sometimes. I’ll have to check it out.

  • I don’t do the whole highlighting and contouring thing. I’ve just never really been that into doing my makeup like that. I’m a less than 5 minutes type makeup person. But my 17 year old loves highlighting and contouring!

    • Sometimes I contour and sometimes I don’t depending upon the time I have and my mood LOL!

  • A lip exfoliator in stick form sounds so awesome! I hate potted ones, they are messy and frustrating. Supporting women owned companies is always my goal!

  • marciaf

I really like the lip exfoliator. I keep that handy since my lips get so dry from matte lipsticks.

  • I love that the pans are refillable/replaceable. That is like my biggest thing with most of the others, is you have to get the WHOLE pallet again for one color. I will have to check this one out because it seems really nice.

  • You look really pretty! I don’t get this contouring thing, but I can tell that it does amazing things for some people!

  • Jeanne Coulombe

The lip exfoliator sounds awesome my lips are always dry and peeling during the winter .

My son has the driest lips ever – I wonder if he would use this lip exfoliate if I purchased it for him? ☺ Does it show any color? I will have to see if this is available in nude.

  • That pumice stick for the lips looks interesting. I remember The Body Shop had something similar.

  • I’m always looking to support women-owned companies!! I will have to check this brand out. Looks like such a fun line!

  • Most of these cosmetics are new to me, as I don’t use much makeup. I could definitely use something like the Lip Pumice Stick Exfoliator in the wintertime.

  • I love their contour palette – its so pigmented

  • Christine Cox

I have never even tried contouring! It seems like something you need to be really good at to even attempt. I’d probably look like a clown when I was finished!

  • Jean Standley

I’ve not heard of this brand but it sounds great! I am yet to try contouring, although I have a palette or two – I’m just too much off a wuss! That pumice sounds like a great product too, I can get really dry lips especially in the winter.

  • Nikki Arnold

I haven’t heard of them but their products look really nice. I have a friend who has trouble with certain products too because she is fair so I think she would love this palette. I really like the brow stick!!

  • Shelley Polarbelle

I love a good contour palette. This one really looks good. I like the size of it too

  • I love those colors in the contour palette! I feel like they are really good shades for lighter skin tones. Plus, the tones look cool! So many times I feel like there are warm contour kits, which just end up looking orange and muddy on my light skin. Love your makeup reviews girl!
