Wow, sample beauty boxes are taking the interwebz! I’m sure most of you have heard about Glossybox coming to the U.S. by now. I didn’t post about the Special Blogger Inaugural USA box I received for two reasons; 1. it seemed every blogger and their dog posted about it and I didn’t want to be redundant and 2. that particular box was a “blogger” box with all full sized products and not representative of what you would receive in a normal box. I also refrained from signing up for a subscription until I had seen the first box. Which incidentally was great–see PammyBlogsBeauty’s review. Flash forward to a few days ago and I receive this Glossybox for May! I did not order it. I have no subscription. I haven’t been charged (as yet) but I am totally digging this box!
Since I didn’t post about the original box, let me review what Glossybox IS. It’s the newest beauty sample subscription service to come to the USA. GLOSSYBOX has been a huge success across the globe and is available in 19 countries. Now it has finally made it’s way to the US. Like all beauty sample services, you pay a monthly fee and get a box of 5 deluxe beauty samples (one of which they promise will be full-sized). However, GLOSSYBOX is the most expensive I’ve seen at $21 month, which is double the price of some other sample boxes. For the $21, I’m had big expectations and I was not disappointed in the Blogger box, BUT that was a special box so I had no idea what to expect from a regular box.
The box itself is lovely and the presentation is classy. The box is a very sturdy reusable pale pink with the Glossybox logo printed in black on the lid. The inside has the logo printed in pink on a black background. I used my blogger box as an extra jewelry box for my bangle bracelets–don’t know what I’ll use this one for.
Here is the box I received for May.
The theme of the May box is “Beauty Around the World” with each product from a different country–nice! The contents:
- Marvis Whitening Mint Toothpaste (Italy: full size, reg. price $7.50): It was kind of a surprise to get toothpaste in a beauty box, but I don’t mind actually. I love the old world packaging, it smells nice and minty and I will use it. “Make the most of your splendid smile with a whitening toothpaste dripping in cool mint freshness, all while protecting against tooth decay, tartar, and plaque.
Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra-Gel (South Korea: sample size, full size cost $100 for 1.7 0z): This gel moisturizer looks cooling and refreshing. The sample size is fairly generous and I look forward to trying it. Another item I will use. “A hydrating gel moisturizer that leaves your skin feeling bright and refreshed. Notice your complexion visibly improve, giving you confidence and a natural glow.”
Burberry Beauty Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick in Copper N. 202 (UK: .GWP size, full size $30). LOVE it! A GWP size with the same packaging and it even has the iconic Burberry pattern just like the full size! It. Is. Adorable. I hope this item is indicative of future boxes! I love the Lip Mists and this is the formula of this sample. I also love the Copper shade, although it’s much more peach on me. This is something that will take up permanent residence in my purse and I may just buy the full size! “A creamy lipstick that offers a hint of natural, sheer color leaving your lips moist and dewy. The perfect present for the perfect pout”
Phyto Intense Hydrating Mask (France: sample size, full size cost $38) : I’ve always wanted to try Phyto products, but they are so expensive I’ve never been able to bring myself to bit the bullet so this is a great way to try it. This, is exactly what a beauty box is meant to do. Let you try a sample of something you may not be familiar with. Yay! “ Indulge in luxury and aroma with a conditioning treatment that moisturizes and detangles strands without weighing hair down. Nourish, revive, and delight.”
Zoya Summer 2012 Beach and Surf Collection Nail Polish in Arizona (USA: Full Size! Reg. price $8): Whoo-hoo! Another full-sized product. Zoya is one of my all-time favorite nail polish brands. They wear like iron and have the most unique, delicious colors! Arizona is a peachy orange that looks just like orangesicle —so perfect for summer toes! Something else I will definitely use! “Dive into the creamy shades and shimmering sea foils of the Zoya Beach & Surf Collection. Allow your nails to go on vacation everyday”
- Glossybox “Extra”: Blush Brush: This is a travel sized blush brush with the Glossybox name and logo printed on the handle. This is the only thing I’m not crazy about. I think the hairs are stiff and I don’t think it’s fluffy enough to be a blush brush–it’s basically a giveaway for me. I’m sure someone at work would like it. I’m not upset about it though, because it is an “extra.”
Bottom Line: Okay, Glossybox you won me over! I am now going to subscribe. Glossybox really pays attention to detail. The Beauty Around the World theme is well executed– this is very nice mix of products from around the globe. Glossybox is miles above the rest of the beauty sample boxes in product mix as well as presentation and attention to detail. I like the fact that being warm toned, the Zoya polish I recieved was Arizona. I don’t know if this was intentional or not, but I hope so. Wouldn’t that be great for a beauty sample subscription to actually pay attention to your profile? If Glossybox can stay consistant with this quality of box, it will be well worth the $21 price. The May box is fantastic! Oh, and if I get charged for this box, I will gladly pay!
I would love to see the Glossybox program expand and offer discounts for referrals or points towards full size products. From what I understand, this may be in the works!
