Several new mascaras have hit the market recently and being the mascara obsessed maven I am, I had to try them all. This is the first in a series of 5 mascara reviews in 5 days. I will test new products as well as re-visit old favorites. I am using Lancome Powerbooster primer with all the mascaras and I am curling my lashes with my Shiseido lash curler just to be all scientific-like. I will also use the same number of coats with each mascara. So get ready to discover which mascara is “bat your lashes worthy!”
I love me some mascara. Even I don’t understand my fascination with it. I have fairly long, black curly lashes–I don’t NEED a mascara to perform magic but I want it to! I feel compelled to try to every new brand or formula on the market. So, naturally when Lancome, the ultimate mascara experts introduced Definicils Precious Cells my compulsion kicked in. I didn’t think maybe I would try it, or I should try it or if I get around to trying it–I HAD to try it. Definicils is THE best selling luxury mascara in the WORLD. What makes Precious Cells different are the ingredients; Malus Domestica (Swiss Apple), Hyaluronic acid and Arginine. These ingredients are suppose to be conditioning and make your lashes soft, I did notice a slight–very slight softness over other high end mascaras.
It performs like the regular Definicils but with more length. The wand is a very skinny thing which is a nice change–I’m really getting tired of the huge wands–I end up with black dots on my lids (yoo hoo CoverGirl Lash Blast) and the big wands make getting those little lashes in the corner nearly impossible and I have to get…every….single….lash. Bigger is not always better people! The formula is wet and creamy, much thinner than Lancome Hypnose Drama one of my favorite mascaras at the moment. No smudging and it doesn’t clump which is another common complaint I have with mascaras. It does promise defined lashes and I would agree with that, they’re just not super full and thick. Smudging isn’t really an issue with me anymore, I don’t know if cosmetics companies are making better formulas or that I’m so old my under eye is just too dry to allow it. Whatever, I’m just glad I don’t have raccoon eyes anymore.
I like this mascara. It may have fancy schmancy ingredients, but I didn’t notice any difference in the look or feel of my lashes even compared to other Lancome products and in my opinion it’s too expensive. It’s good for a natural defined lash look and loooong length. If I’m going to spend $29 on a mascara (which I did) it better have some impact and make me look like Twiggy–and I’m talking 60′s Twiggy not 60 yr old Twiggy!!!!
Packaging: typical Lancome black tube, the brush is very nice and easy to use
Quality: a high end mascara that doesn’t smudge, flake or do any of those other nasty things we don’t like mascaras to do
Value: I think this mascara is too expensive
Best For: high end mascara users; if you like Lancome mascaras you will probably like this one, someone who prefers long natural looking lashes as opposed to a dramatic look. Fantastic length but I would like more volume
Grade: B ++

Cindy, this mascara looks great on your lashes! But I agree…seems a tad pricey. I’ve been testing out the new Maybelline’s Falsies….pretty good so far. And the wand isn’t overly huge:)

First, I love your writing style. You write great reviews. Second I appreciate your honesty with this. Of course the new mascaras just grab our attention but knowing the truth saves us money!!
