Beauty bloggers don’t always agree and I’m sorry to tell you this, but your favorite bloggers are entrenched in a war. That’s right, ….a Makeup War. We each have our favorite taupe eye shadow and are pitting them against each other in…..The Battle of the Taupe Shadows!! Here is my taupe soldier, Burberry Pale Barley. At the end of this post is a list of the other warriors and their favorite taupe soldiers, make sure to check them out.
Our Makeup Wars group has lots of ideas and fun projects planned so stay tuned for more challenges!!
For a neutral lover like me, Burberry Beauty is a treasure trove of understated natural loveliness. The line is ideal for us over 40 women–there is no overt shimmer or glitter to fall on cheeks and the textures are creamy, thereby making it nearly impossible to settle into fine lines.
Burberry eye shadows are soft, smooth, blendable and super easy to work with. Pale Barley is a luscious amalgam of gold, beige and taupe. At first glance, it appears as a typical taupe in the pan, but when swatched, the complexity of the shade starts to emerge. It glows on the eyes with a delicate sheen. It’s simply stunning! Being a chameleon, varying the intensity will make Pale Barley shift from gold to taupe to champagne. Using a variety of cream eye shadows underneath will also render varied results. I like to pair neutral eye shadows with different colors of eyeliners to make eyes pop. In the pictures below, I paired Pale Barley with bareMinerals Big and Bright Eyeliner in Oz, a pretty deep green. Any shade would work well–navy, purple, bronze–have fun and experiment!
Burberry’s packaging is exquisite. A heavy (but not too heavy) gunmetal compact with the iconic Burberry pattern encased in a black velvet pouch. The eye shadow compacts come with a full mirror and a sponge applicator. I do wish they came with a brush like some of the other brands are starting to do more often.
If you like neutral eye shadows with a little kick or that you can morph into several different looks, Burberry Pale Barley Sheer Eye Shadow is a must have. By the way, although Burberry’s eye shadows are billed as ‘sheer’ they are very pigmented!
Burberry is sold exclusively at select Nordstrom stores. I did hear they are now at Saks too.
