YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levres Glossy Stain in #15-Rose Vinyl ($32). There I did it! This is as close to pucker perfection as you will ever get beauties. Want über long wear? Check. Glossy shine? Check. Lightweight texture? Check. Excellent pigmentation? Check. Can’t stand sticky glosses? Check. I could go on for hours.
The beauty blog mavens have been talking about YSL Glossy Stains for while now but I didn’t pay much attention until went shopping with my good friend Carla from Product Girl–she’s the reason for my obsession with Le Metier de Beaute, by the way. We were in Neiman Marcus and she asked me if I had tried the YSL Glossy Stains, I said no, she said you HAVE to–end of conversation. The first shade that drew my attention was #15 Rose Vinyl. Rose Vinyl will always have a special place in my heart–it is THE perfect pink. It’s passionate, playful, personable, poised, popular and pretty–in other words, Pink Perfection. I cannot see this bright neutral pink looking less than wonderful on anyone! It’s also perfect for summer because it’s ideal for that nice pop of color without being loud or obnoxious.
YSL Glossy Stains have such a unique formula! I have never seen anything like it–it is truly revolutarny! They have managed to do what many, many other brands have failed at–creating a hybrid of a gloss and a stain that actually works! Most stains are very drying and wear unevenly–think of the dreaded “ring around the lip line.” Straight out of the tube the texture of this stain is almost watery, but it soon dries down and “sets.” When the gloss wears off (and it holds on for a good 4 hours), you are left with beautiful even color that looks gorgeous.
Applying Glossy Stains is a bit different too. For the first application, “paint” it on let it sit for a minute. If you want more coverage, more gloss or a deeper color, apply a second coat ( I always do). It’s important to note that this stain is supposed to be applied to dry lips–do not prep with lip balm or liner. For the first few minutes, the product is sticky but then it morphs into a thin gel-like non- sticky stain and after about 5 minutes there is no stickiness at ALL.You can lick your lips, eat, drink and after 4-5 hours it still look freshly applied–it does not move, bleed or migrate. I’ve been traveling for work this week and have had some very late nights and early mornings and I’ve worn Rose Vinyl every day–it has lasted through talking, eating, drinking, heat, humidity, and airplanes. Okay I’m not sure what an airplane has to do with anything–but Rose Vinyl conquered the silver bird! This been my still-looking-good-lifesaver! One touch-up during the day and one in the evening is all I needed.
The color in the bottle is a bit deceiving. Remember the old Polaroid film? These stains need to ‘develop’ just like watching those old Polaroids. I’m thrilled with the pointy doe foot applicator–it allows for a precision application. especially around the cupids bow.
There are 20 shades available with #20 being exclusive to Sephora, #13 exclusive to Nordstrom. They are also available at Neiman Marcus.
I want SO many more! I suppose I’m grateful to Carla for introducing me to YSL Glossy Stains even though she did start ANOTHER obsession!

Beautiful choice. I haven’t tried these because YSL always means fragrance to me. Do you notice that with this?
Marcia,
I didn’t really notice any fragrance.
