L’Oreal Miss Manga mascara has finally landed in the US and is causing quite a stir. You all know by now I have CCD (cosmetic compulsion disorder) which means I feel compelled to try every new cosmetic product that hits the market AND mascara is my “drug” of choice. So of course I had to try this new supposedly revolutionary mascara immediately if not sooner.

Admittedly I had no clue what Manga meant but after applying L’Oreal Miss Manga mascara I was sure it meant “clumpy lashes.” Oddly that is the goal…sort of. MANGA refers to Japanese comic books where female characters are drawn with long, thick, spiky lashes, purportedly to make them look innocent and wide-eyed.

Miss Manga did indeed make my lashes clump in a full- spiky kind of way which I wasn’t impressed with; after all I am not a Japanese Anime character nor do I want to look like one. It took me a few times of using the flexible wand to get used to it and to apply the mascara properly. The 360° flexor brush has a notch in the wand so you can bend it to get tiny lashes and hard to reach places. Personally, I think it’s a worthless gimmick and I am definitely NOT a fan of the flexible brush–it’s too wobbly to have any control! You have to work a little harder with this brush and really PULL it through your lashes–using a lash comb before applying the mascara will help minimize the clumping.

PROS:

  • you can achieve looooooong length–my lashes hit my sunglasses!
  • your lashes WILL look thicker
  • creamy formula–your lashes will feel conditioned not crispy
  • the formula is easily buildable–this is 3 coats
  • no smudging even with eye cream underneath
  • removal is easy

CONS:

  • clumping–the more coats you apply the more clumps you will get. However, that’s the idea of this mascara; to give you spiky lashes!
  • the brush is TOO flexible for me (you might feel differently)
  • the brush can deposit too much all at once, you may need to wipe it off on a tissue

Bottom Line:  if you like dramatic, mega volume, mega length lashes L’Oreal Miss Mange is for you! If however, you prefer a more natural look, stop here and turn back, Miss Manga will be too much of a drama queen for you. It is a bit addicting for a makeup junkie like myself. I love the look of long, bold lashes but not the spiky look so I am kind of on the fence about this one. The formula is fine, the brush is fine (though not preferred as far as I’m concerned), I do get great length but I’m not sure if my lashes look too thick and spiky.

I need your help, do you like L’Oreal Miss Manga on my lashes? Please vote yes or no in the comments.

Have you tried Miss Manga? Do you like the thick, spiky lash look?

  1. I LOVE this mascara on first try yesterday! It didn’t clump my lashes terribly, but I didn’t do more than a couple coats. I am a big fan of the flexible brushes, for some reason they work really well with my thin, sparse, blond lashes! I had a great deal of volume added, and some length, which I liked. I’m not sure I would like this if I achieved the spiky lash look, but I will have to play around with it and see!

  2. I love this mascara right now. I totally do agree more coats are full blown spider lashes. lol. I do love the brush and how it is super flexible. I am going to try and mix it with another mascara to see if it will give me length too. lol… Great post!

  3. I just bought this and haven’t tried it yet. I need to break it open!

  4. Hmmm, I think I will like this mascara – I was on the fence, but I do love a good dramatic mascara. LOL

  5. I am definitely passing on this one. I also love the L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara because the formula is fantastic. Your photo with Butterfly is fabulous! (and I love the blue liner). L’Oreal seems to have missed the mark with Miss Manga

  6. Hmm I’m not sure if it’s going to be for me, mainly because it’s not waterproof and my lashes need a waterproof mascara

  7. I can’t stop staring at the bright teal blue below your eye

  8. I bought this and it is still unused

  9. I am not a fan of the spikes either.

  10. Even though it clumps I still want to try it :D

  11. I see the standees for this product EVERYWHERE!!!

  12. I LOOOVVEEE this mascara!

  13. Wow, I’m amazed at how much it enhanced your lashes !

  14. I am so incredibly jealous of your lashes. I’ve tried and reviewed this mascara and I LOVE it!

  15. I think I’m too old for this particular gimmick! lol. I’m not loving the spiky, slightly spidery look! Now, get me my cane and get off my lawn, you crazy kids!

  16. Lisa Heath says:

I’m ashamed to say I bought this mascara months ago and never opened it!! I need to now

  17. I need to try this. Seriously need to try it!!

  18. LOL on drama queen! I think I will have the same evaluation if I get the chance to try this. I’m not a fan of tarantula lashes but I like dramatic flirty lashes sometimes

  19. Love this post – I am working on mine. I actually love this thing man… it is going to be one of my favs. I hate spider lashes, but after playing with this over the last month… I think I have been able to get it down to a science so the clumping doesn’t occur with 2-3 coats. :)

  20. I don,t think this would be for me because I really don,t like the spikey look. Several of my friends wear this look and when I am with them I can’t stop staring at their eyes and it,s not in a good way.

  21. Yes! Love it!! You wear the drama so well!!

  22. I’m not a fan of spikey look, it just doesn’t look good on me.

  23. I really like it on you! I’ve read so many positive reviews of this so far!

  24. betzy carmona says:

Your lashes do look amazing with this mascara

  25. Mamavalveeta03 says:

Let’s face it, Cindy, you were genetically blessed with great lashes! So, you could probably get away with anything….or nothing, and they’d look great. I’d still go for L’oreal butterfly. Natural girl, here. No clumps for me!

  26. I stood in front of the display and wondered about buying it. I’m glad now I didn’t. I hate clumps. I need length. I say it’s a NO.

  27. Susan P. says:

I didn’t like this at all! I bought the waterproof kind and had a hard time getting it off of my lashes. (I use Clinique eye make up remover) I had to use it twice and then used my regular make up remover in the shower and there was still clumps of it on my lashes. I even had a nightmare that night that I pulled all of my eyelashes out trying to remove it. It’s a big no for me. At least the waterproof kind was.

  28. MamaToMany says:

For you: I actually think it wouldn’t be bad if you used a “better” mascara on your lower lashes! I find that so many of my favs (I’m a fellow mascara compulsive shopper) are amazing… but that I need to use a very basic one on my lower lashes or I risk A) dead spider leg lashes or B) getting mascara on the skin.

For me: Noooo thanks! I can tell just by looking at that wand that my thin blonde lashes would turn into a rats nest of yuck!! But thank you for the review so my curiosity won’t make me waste money!!

  29. Heather says:

I really like the product…especially on lower lashes because it wears great with no smudging, but removes easily. I found a great trick that gives me both length and volume. I follow the Miss Manga with the Butterfly Effect (on top lashes..bottom ones just MM). The MM bulks up the lashes and the comb/wand combo on the BE separates. This application method made me love both products more than I loved them on their own.

  30. This mascara look great on you!
