Every true makeup junkie has their own favorite
product obsession of choice, in case you haven’t noticed, mine is eye shadow– particularly eye shadow palettes. I’m drawn to palettes for a few reasons; they are convenient, color coordinated, travel easily and I’m lazy. LORAC’s Unzipped Palette ($40) fits the bill on all counts. Having all these coordinating colors in one place makes makeup application a no-brainer and believe me at 5 AM my brain is not functioning at full capacity. Opening the Unzipped palette and seeing all those pretty, shimmery neutrals made me…well… a little verklempt.
In my best Linda Richmond voice ”Just gaze upon neutral nirvana and tawk amongst yourselves.”
- Undercover: A soft cream (matte)
- Unbelievable: A shimmery peach
- Unattainable: A shimmery metallic gold
- Unconditional: a fawn brown (matte)
- Unbridled: a cool brown with red undertones
- Undiscovered: A warm shimmery gold
- Unreal: A shimmery rose gold (on my favs)
- Uncensored: A shimmery bronze
- Unspoken: A soft brown (matte)
- Untamed: A deep brown with gold flecks
Many bloggers are comparing this palette to the Urban Decay Naked palettes (1 and 2) and at first glance I can understand why. However, personally I much prefer the Unzipped palette. The shades are not as glittery and therefore have little to no fallout so common with the UD Naked palettes. Naked 2 is very cool toned while LORAC Unzipped is fairly neutral, though there are certainly more warm shades than cool. Unzipped in my opinion is more wearable for us over 40 women because even with the metallic shades, there is only a nice sheen as opposed to glitter. The texture is smooth and creamy–like Linda Richmond says “it’s like buttah!” And… these shadows stay put, even without the primer–no kidding they lasted at least 8 hours on me without the primer–win!
The mix of warm and cool shades also make this a very wearable summer palette with lots of options. One of my favorite looks is to use Undercover (the pretty cream matte shade) under the brow bone, Unreal ( the rose gold shade) on the lid, and Uncensored (shimmery bronze) in the crease. A light touch of Undiscovered (shimmery pale gold) on the inside corner of the eye and underneath the lower lash line and *poof* I’m a bronzed goddess. Sort of–if only it were that easy!
The packaging is a cardboard container with a full mirror, which is fine, but for travel you might want to add additional padding. The palette comes with a mini Behind The Scenes Eye Primer. I’m really digging it–thinner than Urban Decay Primer Potion, spreads evenly and you can still blend your shadows. For a detailed review, pop over to PinkSith.
Overall Thoughts: The LORAC Unzipped Palette is a beautiful bunch of nude/neutral eye shadow shades that make eyes gleam. The combination of warm and cool shades is well thought out and versatile. This palette is high quality, wearable and long lasting. The addition of the A+ eye shadow primer is a nice bonus for the price. Speaking of price, this represents a good value at $40 for 10 shadows and the primer. Perfect for summer, LORAC hit the bullseye!
