Introducing the Folklore Collection by Laura Mercier. Rich, earthy and tribal colours inspired by cultures of South and Central America make up the Summer 2013 Collection. I’m reading a book on Native Americans in the 1890′s and these colors remind me so much of the landscape in the west at that time. The red rocks and pueblos of the southwest and the rolling plains of Texas.
Laura Mercier’s inspiration for this collection stems from Aztec influences and fantastical rituals, colours in this collection are reminiscent of ancient symbols and artifacts, textiles and jewelry. When conceptualizing the collection, Laura envisioned the spirit of earth and fire infused into an illuminating new mosaic of colour. The products create a naturally bronzed look, with fiery shades that are perfect for day and night.
The collection includes:
This unique formula is a melange of five colors that are hand mixed and then baked on a tile. It provides a hint of natural bronze color that works very well on all skin tones.
At first glance I was sure this bronzer would not work for me. It looks way too dark in the pan and too orange. Not so–the brown is rich, not orange or muddy. There is also pink, ivory and even plum mixed in. I can wear Ritual as a bronzer with very careful application. I use my IT Cosmetics jumbo all over powder brush. It bristles are dense so I tap lightly into the pan and then tap off any excess. I put a bit of bronzer on my temples, across the bridge of my nose and dab on my chin. I dabbed my brush in the pan again to apply to my cheeks as a blush. I’m still a little pale for the blush but when I get a bit more color, this blush will be look so natural and be perfect for summer.
Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour ($24)
These shadows are very similar to the eye colours Laura released in 2012 holiday collection, with one big difference. These eye shadows are not nearly as shimmery. Instead, they have a luminous pearl finish that is subtle and not glittery like the holiday collection was. If those were too were too much sparkle for you, these new Illuminating Eye Colours should be just right. The texture is so smooth and silky they feel more like a cream than a powder. This new design chosen by Laura is evocative of the tribal influence of the collection.
Just as you would imagine, Fire Glow is an orangy copper, Sun Glow is a gold and Earth Glow is brown. The pearl finish gives them a nice dimension. Fire Glow brings out blue eyes beautifully. For this look, I used Fire Glow on the lid and Burberry Midnight Brown in the crease. I also used Laura Mercier Brown Copper eyeliner, a Prime Beauty All Star!
Laura Mercier Lip Crayon ($22)
This new formula applies like a lipstick and delivers hydrating and rich color. The twist-up component means there is never a need to sharpen the crayon.Considering my love for everything coral, it’s no surprise I chose Mayan Sun to complete my look.
Crème Eye Liner ($22)
As a prefect compliment to the collection, Laura Mercier recommends lining the eyes in shades of teal and blue. The formula is non-drying, smudge, water and transfer resistant.
Body Bronzing Makeup ($38)
Instantly reveals healthy, radiant and bronzed skin. No commitment is necessary as the makeup washes off with soap and water.
And…..the Laura Mercier Folklore Look:
Overall: The Folklore Collection from Laura Mercier is beautiful. Ritual bronzer is surprisingly versatile for all skin tones. The eye shadows are spectacularly beautiful and the texture is divine. The lip crayons range from pink, to peach to a deep raisin. The collection embodies summer so well. That said, the shades are very warm so I’m not sure how it will work for cool toned gals. I suggest you make a visit to the counter first.
