Lancôme was my first journey back into the cosmetics world after putting my obsession on hold for career and family. Oh, the sacrifices we make for family! The luxurious but accessible French brand has always been there for me, so when I got the news about the new Lancôme Rouge In Love lipsticks ($25) I felt compelled to try them out. Ya know, just so Lancôme wouldn’t be offended 🙂 A lipstick with 6-hour wear and 21 shades? Yes, please.
My first impression was sheer delight at the phethora of shades! 21 shades to choose from? Oh dear, oh my, oh JOY!
The collection is categorized into 3 moods:
- Jolis Matins: Fresh shades for daytime wear. Jolis Matins shades are identified with the letter M in the shade number.
- Boudoir Time: Pop shades for cocktail hour. Bourdoir Time shades are identified with the letter B in the shade number.
- Tonight is My Night: Intense shades for magical nights. Tonight is My Night shades are identified with the letter N in the shade number.
To be honest, I wasn’t really paying too much attention to the categories–I headed straight for the corals and there were so many to choose from! My eyes immediately fixed on #322M, Corail In Love, a pinky coral that summoned me. When I opened the cap the clouds parted, I distinctly heard harps strumming and an angel landed on my shoulder and whispered in my ear “It’s the coral you’ve been waiting all your life for.” Angel was right, Corail In Love completes me. It’s the ultimate warm coral; a mix of pink, peach and orange. It adapts to it’s surrounding; it pulls more orange or more pink depending on what you’re wearing or if you top it off with a gloss. I tried Corail In Love with the new Lancôme Color Fever Gloss in Candied Coral from the O So Coral 2012 Gloss Collection— a match made in heaven. Thank you angel. I also tried it with Napeleon Paradis in Rare Opal, an iridescent opal with multi-colored shimmer–beautiful!!
Perhaps the biggest surprise was the lightweight texture. Most lipsticks this pigment dense are matte and for me (and most women over 40) matte is equivalent to a shining beacon highlighting the lines and wrinkles on your lips. Not to mention they usually feel heavy and are drying to the lips. In Love lipsticks have a glossy look and feel and are very comfortable to wear–they feel more like a balm than a lipstick. Lancôme International president Youcef Nabi says that the goal of the product line is to appeal to younger women, like spokesperson Emma Watson, who have traditionally been fans of glosses but want to transition into wearing lipstick more.
Coverage is medium to full in just one swipe. The two attributes that really make these lipsticks stand out (literally) are the the long-wearing formula–seriously, 5-6 hours of wear time and the pigment rich shades. In Love lipsticks glide on effortlessly and do not bleed or feather into lines-perfect for us *ahem* more mature women!
Bottom Line: Lancôme In Love Lipstick is a fabulous formula that is color rich, super long lasting, has a smooth balm-like feel and comes in 21 shades so you are sure to find one (or a few) that complete you too. I’m already planning which shades to buy next! P.S. KarlaSugar has swatches here!
