Wearing makeup is supposed to enhance your natural beauty. So it makes sense that if you are going to wear makeup, use it your advantage. One way to do that is contouring.
Ever wanted sexy sculpted cheeks like a super model? Not only is the look sultry but it’s slimming to the face too! Trust me beauties, you won’t get it from dabbing blush on the apples of your cheeks. However, Lancôme makes it easier than ever with their Face Sculpting Illuminating All-In-One Contour, Blush & Highlighter Compact ($42). It has everything you need for chiseled cheeks!
First we’ll talk about how to contour to get that “sucking on a lemon” look. We know from art class that dark colors recede and light colors bring forth. Now take a look at this chart (from IT Cosmetics).
The light areas are for highlighter to bring those areas forward where light would normally hit your face. The bridge of your nose, your forehead, your cheekbones, your brow bone and above and under the lips. To be honest, I don’t put highlighter on my forehead, it’s big enough
The dark areas are the areas you want to recede. Let me tell you, a few well placed stripes of bronzer will take 10 years off–pinky swear! Under cheekbones, along the jawline, along the sides of the nose (if you feel you need it) and down the center of your neck slims and sculpts your face.
Of course the pink stripes are for your blush.
Back to Lancôme’s Face Sculpting Illuminating All-In-One Contour, Blush & Highlighter Compact. This palette claims to “sculpt and enhance your best features. Artistry is made easy with three simple steps to contour, blush, and highlight your complexion. For any skin tone, any face shape – your complexion is naturally enhanced. Define your face, enhance, or diminish any features for a complexion that is illuminated and brightened.” It really makes contouring easy-peasy and you’ll love the results.
My boss recently asked me if I had lost weight; she said “you’re face looks thinner.” Although I wish I had lost weight, I owe my thinner face to contouring! Now if I only had a vat to contour my whole body!!
For my first Face Sculpting Illuminating All-In-One Contour, Blush & Highlighter (yes, I will buying more) I chose Nectar Lace. It looks kind of like NARS Orgasm in the pan doesn’t it? It’s SO much better, no disco glitter!!!
The bronzer is a perfect shade–not too warm or cool and a light brown shade with no orange undertones. Nectar Lace Blush is what I wanted Orgasm to be–w universal peachy/pink that brightens any complexion. The highlighter is a pretty gold that is not too sparkly. I think this is a great compact for over 40 women who may want to try contouring.
Nectar Lace is ideal for fair and medium skin tones, I’m not sure the bronzer would be appropriate darker skin tones. The good news is that Lancôme Blush Subtil 3-Pan Palette comes in 5 shades:
- Rose Flush
- Framboise Flirt
- Plum Elegance
- Nectar Lace
- Pêche Savvy
My favorite brush for contouring is the SENNA Cosmetics Powder Point 33. It has a tapered tip that is perfect for contouring along the nose and jawline and is full and soft.
Not only is this palette convenient, but the price is right–a single blush is $30 so you are getting the bronzer and highlighter for only an additional $12.
Bottom Line: Lancôme’s Face Sculpting Illuminating All-In-One Contour, Blush & Highlighter Compact is a quick and easy way to learn how to sculpt your face, it even has an instruction booklet. This is ideal for the over 40 woman who wants to step her makeup game. The quality is fabulous, the color selection great!
