June’s Glam Bag was filled to the brim with awesome sauce, but this month’s doesn’t give that same old thrill. July’s theme is “Sensationally Sunkissed” and emphasizes products that you can use while in the sun and by the water. If you’re not familiar, Ipsy is a monthly subscription bag. For only $10 a month you get a great mix of full and sample size beauty products from great brands and a cute makeup bag too! I particularly like the Ipsy Glam Bag because for the most part, they keep your coloring and preferences in mind. If you ever decide to join, please use my link here.
Now let’s dig in!
Hang Ten Dark Tanning Oil (sample $2) – I haven’t used anything but sunscreen and self tanners for the last 6 or 7 years. This is oxybenzone- and paraben-free with no artificial fragrances so that’s good. Unfortunately I don’t lay out in the sun anymore so I won’t use it. Also, it was leaking slightly when it arrived so it will go into the trash.
Bare Escentuals 5 in 1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow (sample $5) – I love bareMinerals and I love cream eyeshadows so I thought this would be a slam dunk! Unfortunately, I do not like this shade. I’m not sure what the shade name is but it looks like a dark grey/taupe–much too dark for my complexion. In fact, it’s kind of a sad color–it just looks to me what the world would look like after an apocalypse–depressing. Don’t get me wrong, like I said, I love bareMinerals and I’m sure these cram shadows live up to their claims, I’m just not a fan of this shade. That’s all! Ipsy, I would have given me a peachy or beige shade I’d be loving on you right now. I am jealous of some subscribers that received a bareMinerals Ready eyeshadow duo 🙁
Befine Food Skincare Moisturizer SPF 15 – just another moisturizer. It does smell nice and have natural-ish ingredients but it all has an SPF of 15 that leaves a definite white cast to the skin as well as makes skin shiny. Meh. It will probably end getting thrown into a drawer to give away.
Pixi Beauty Tinted Brilliance Balm (mini $8)) – the shade is called unique pink but it is pretty much clear on me. I have a few of these full size lip crayons so I was hoping to get a nice color to add to my collection, but this shade has no opacity. I don’t have much pigment in my lips so I got a whisper of pink. I probably won’t use this much, but balms are nice to have to wear under lipstick or just for hydration so it’s okay.
wHet Nail Polish in Facetious (full size $9) – this is a gorgeous colbalt blue shade. I’ve become addicted to this shade, I have several pieces of clothing in the shade and sandals too. wHet is a vegan polish, is “three free” and void of harmful chemicals like formaldehyde, toluene, and dpd (dibutyle phthalate). Plus, it’s exclusively made in the USA, and never tested on animals! Looks great on fingers or toes!
BONUS: I redeemed 1,000 of my Ipsy points for this full-sized lipstick and I’m so glad I did since it is the highlight of the bag! You can collect Ipsy points from referrals and from rating your bags every month which can be cashed in for extras.
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Light It Up (full size, $18) – I love this formula from bareMinerals. It’s creamy and color rich. Say the word Coral and I go into my happy dance, so I am thrilled with this face brightening shade and that it’s full size!
Bottom Line: I’m disappointed with the July Ipsy bag. I know every bag can’t be spectacular, but Ipsy has spoiled me with such great bags in the past, I have come to expect (probably unfairly) that each bag will be a treasure. Although this month’s bag didn’t sweep me off my feet, it still represented a great value–$31 without the bonus and $49 with the bonus all for $10!! Step it up for next month Ipsy!! If you decide to join, (it’s still the best beauty subscription out there) please use my referral link here.
