IPSY Glam Bag for March: Review, Pics, Swatches

IPSY bag March

Purchased by me

Happy, happy, joy, joy my March Ipsy Glam bag is here and oh boy!  First of all, the bag is cute with NO yucky plastic smell. Ipsy is the only beauty subscription box I’ve  kept getting and not cancelled. For only $10 a month you get a great mix of full and sample size beauty products from great brands and a cute makeup bag too! I particularly like the Ipsy Glam Bag because for the most part, they keep your coloring and preferences in mind. If you ever decide to join, please use my link here.

The theme this month is “Destination Beauty.”  Items included are supposed to work for a  beach vacation or a simple stay-cation.  There were 11 different items that shipped in subscribers bags with each person receiving four of them.  Some  of the other items available are Pacifica Body Butter, Nicole by OPI Polish, bareMinerals Lipstick and Be A Bombshell Quad plus a few more.

Here’s what was in my bag:

The makeup bag – I didn’t like this bag that much until I found out it was designed by Klari Reis and is a representation of the city streets of  San Francisco where Ipsy started . That makes it kind of fun and quirky.  You can check out the full San Francisco topographical painting here.

bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready (deluxe sample ext. $6) ) – I love Marvelous Moxie lipsticks, they are extremely creamy, pigmented with lots of shine and they stick around a while.  I actually like this mini size to throw in my bag for touch ups.

bareMinerals Get Ready

Chella Eyeliner Pen in Indigo Blue (Full size $24) – Love, love love! I’m very impressed with this liquid liner. The extremely fine tip makes lining really easy, even for a klutz like me! There is no flaking or smudging and it last ALL day long–I’m talking like 12 hours! Indigo Blue is a pretty medium blue shade that flatters my blue eyes without looking too garish. This is something I would definitely like to have in more colors too.

PixiBeauty Flawless Beauty Primer (Mini size $9) – unlike a traditional clear primer, this is a bronze shade. I was concerned it would be way too dark (it did look more like a bronzer on) but when I applied my foundation over it, a wonderful thing happened, it erased my pores and wrinkles and gave me a warm glow! In fact, a co-worker said she really like my makeup and when I quizzed her as to why, (poor girl) she said “your skin is glowing and you look 7 years younger, I can’t see any wrinkles.”  Well, she just became my favorite person and bestie. Why she chose 7 years I don’t know but I’ll take it!! I attribute that mostly to this primer although I did put some highlighter over my blush too. Note to self: use highlighter more often. I’m going to use this everyday and then buy the full size!

NYX Eyeshadow Trio Love in Rio (Full size $6) – Great shades for me (good job Ipsy) even though I have a ton of these shades. I got a POPBeauty eyeshadow trio in my bag last month that was very similar. It’s not Ipsy’s fault I have eleventy billion brown eyeshadows!  NYX has great products and really decent prices so this is not a bad choice, but I would like it to be a bit more pigmented. In the pan the last color on the right looks grey but applied it is more of a brown taupe.

BONUS: NYX Bronze Smoky Look Kit (Full size $12)– The Bronze Smokey Look Kit contains 9 eye shadows and 2 lip colors. A slide-out compartment houses the lip colors so they don’t mix with the powder eyeshadows. This is much smaller than I imagined–about the size of a blush. The shadows are a mix of brown, gold and bronze with both matte and shimmer finishes and nicely pigmented. I would prefer the lip shades to be more summery like the rest of the palette–maybe a coral and a bright pink, but these are not as pigmented as I like. The box has instructions on it, which is a nice touch. Overall, well worth the $12 for a quick summer look. I think this would be great to take along for a weekend trip. And… I’ve managed to lose this already so I’m using a stock photo.

Bottom Line: The value of my Ipsy bag this month is $45, $57 if you count my bonus. It’s totally worth it for me just for the Chella eyeliner alone! That’s one reason I enjoy these bags, I get to try brands and products I normally might overlook or have never heard of.  I’m very satisfied with my March Ipsy bag and I think they are doing a great job–keep it up! Ipsy is also the only subscription I have joined and continue with. I really liked my bag. We got some different products from each other. I have a blog post showing what I got if you would like to check it out.

How interesting to see your bag! I got the primer and lipstick but I got the indigo Chella eyeliner and the white/grey/black Love in Rio instead of the polish and Pacifica. I adore the bag. It instantly reminded me of a painting or several paintings by Albert Alcalay, a mid-century painter who was inspired by cities, especially New York.

Hi! How awesome is the Pixi primer?!? I love it too. I received the Be A Bomshell quad & am quite happy with it. The lipstick is a nice soft color – love! I love nail polish & received it but don’t really like textured polishes. Oh well, for $10 this service is exceptional. :)

The bombshell quad looked quite nice–love the colors!

I like the Pixie primer, but haven’t dared to use it around my eyes yet- I’m afraid it will accentuate my wrinkles. Has anyone put it on eye wrinkles yet?
I loved this Ipsy bag, too, and this is my favorite bag since joining Ipsy about 3 months ago. I got about the same items as Cindy, but no bombshell quad or NYX bonus kit. Would have liked the Pacifica item as I’ve been wanting to try the brand.
I agree- Ipsy provides the consistently best bag items and value for me; however, the Blush Bag is awesome, but costlier ($25.00) I want to cancel it because of the price, but can’t bring myself to do it because I like it so much- especially for a mature woman.

That’s good to know about the Blush bag, I’m going to check into that one!

The Blush Mystery Bag (comes in a black drawstring bag) often includes full size products. They provide a lot of skin care items like retinols, and sometimes darling little perfume mini’s like an Elizabeth Arden one I got.
