How To Be An Over 40 Redhead! – A Guest Post

This post is dedicated to you over 40 redheads who have struggled with keeping your delicate skin young and beautiful. That’s right, redhead beauties–I got your back :)

Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti are founders of How to Be a Redhead  (www.howtobearedhead.com), a website that strives to make every redhead feel beautiful. Best friends, sisters, and natural-born redheads, Adrienne and Stephanie teach women to love their looks with recommendations for hair, skin, make-up, clothing, and more.

Many How to be a Redhead readers are forty and over and we always receive great tips to keep our skin young and fresh!

Natural redheads have to be careful not to damage their skin with harmful sun rays and must practice these special techniques in order to look fresh and young.

VITAMIN E- Whenever we meet natural redheads over 40 and they have perfect skin, their answer is always Vitamin E. In our opinion, this is one of the biggest secrets in the beauty industry. It is around $5.00 at the drug store and should always be included in your moisturizer. It prevents wrinkles, stops aging (our mother is 60 with no wrinkles!) and keeps skin baby soft. For this price and the dramatic results, you can’t go wrong.

SUNSCREEN- Using an SPF will prevent your skin from aging and since most redheads have freckles, it is important to apply sunscreen to avoid skin cancer. One of our readers, a forty-something beautiful redhead, Catherine Hammer said, “ [Stay young by] staying out of the sun and wearing sunscreen when you are in the sun. All my friends who were “sun worshippers” when we were young, have wrinkles and leathery skin now.”

EXFOLIATE- We exfoliate with brown sugar twice a week. If you look at any expensive exfoliator, you’ll notice sugar is always the main ingredient. Save yourself the money and spend $5.00 on brown, raw sugar. Also, Caroline Manzo from The Real Housewives of New Jersey is a beautiful redhead and when asked how she keeps her skin flawless, she said she shaves her face. When asked about her unique skin-care regime she told Bravo’s TV Host, Andy Cohen, “I have beautiful skin, it’s to exfoliate!”

MOISTURIZE- Have you noticed many redheads of Scottish/Irish decent don’t have wrinkles? When we’ve asked them why and how, their response is always, “we come from a hydrated environment.” Therefore, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated. If you have a sauna at work, use it a few times a week, also make sure to drink lots of water and moisturize day and night!

When you use these redhead techniques, your forty-something skin will look ageless.

Keep looking flawless, gingers!

  1. I can relate, i’m a natural redhead and have the fair skin to prove it:)
I’m always very careful to wear high SPF sunblock, because i’m not able to tan well anyways. So if your going to have fair skin, it’s nice to keep it as free from wrinkles as possible.

    • How to be a Redhead agrees! It’s always safer to wear sunscreen and even enhance your skin with good instant tanners than to risk being wrinkled in the later years!

  2. Great skin care tips, like that the suggestions are natural too! I agree that sugar makes an excellent exfoliant!

    • We swear my sugar!! We buy large plastic jars and put a ton of sugar in them for our shower/bathroom area. We even love to exfoliate our lips– try it, you’ll notice the difference :)

  3. Holly O says:

Where do you put the Vitamin E? All over your face? How often ? I am a big fan of aloe vera, which has vitamin e in it.

    Thanks for the tip.
