Pick the Fruit of the Lipstick Tree! Tarte has an amazing 3-piece limited edition summer collection called Gifts From The Lipstick Tree ($42). It features full sizes of 12-hour Amazonian Clay Blush, a LipSurgence Lip Luster and a Maracuja Lip Gloss all in the shade Achiote, a pinky bright-ish coral. Seeds from the achiote have long been used by American Indians to make body paint, especially for the lips, which is the origin of the plant’s nickname, lipstick tree. Is it also a treasured beauty secret from the beautiful women of Brazil. I NEED these seeds!!!!!
You might recall in winter of 2011, Tarte released the cream version of Achiote blush and the same LipSurgence Lip Tint as a duo. I couldn’t be more delighted that it’s back again! I’m also thrilled that Tarte released a 12-hour Amazonian Clay version of the blush. These blushes are highly pigmented and extremely long lasting–just what every girl needs come summertime.
Tarte Achiote Lip Luster – like I mentioned before, this is a re-promote from last winter, but I for one, am elated to have it back. I’m a HUGE fan of the LipSurgence line with it’s glossy finish and minty taste. A big bonus is that when the gloss wears off, you are left with a light stain. Achiote is stunning– pigment rich, one swipe of the chubby pencil leaves a slightly shimmery pinky coral stain–two coats imparts a drop dead high gloss bright coral lip. Lighter skinned beauties will appreciate the touch of pink in both the blush and lipstick so as not to appear orange and darker beauties can control the application to choose the intensity they prefer. Achiote really brightens up the face and I get so many compliments when I’m wearing it, I wish Tarte would make it a permanent part of the line.
12-Hour Amazonian Clay Blush in Achiote– these blushes last longer than the Kardashian/Humphries marriage (not hard to do)! They are highly pigmented (use a duo fiber or skunk brush), and do not fade. They are packaged in a pretty compact that matches the blush with a beautiful embossed pattern. If your blush fades quickly, if you like natural cruelty-free products with good-for-your skin ingredients, this blush is for you!
Maracuja Lip Gloss in Achiote– Only one crop of this rare Brazilian fruit grows every year with the harvest occurring in late August. Women of the Amazonian cooperative collect maracuja by hand and cold press the seeded pulp of the fruit, extracting the concentrated pure oil, to preserve the loss of any nutrient-rich essential fatty acids (EFAs) or vitamins. Rich in vitamins A & E this plant derivative helps moisturize, regenerate and condition skin. Tarte describes Achiote as a warm shimmery golden pink and they are spot on for this gloss, although I think the other pieces lean way more toward coral.
Overall Thoughts: I’m really diggin’ this set. The colors are perfect for a bright summer pop of color. The set itself leans slightly warm, however I think it will work for most skin tones. It really brightens up pale complexions and will set off darker skin beautifully. All three products are excellent quality and deliver high performance. Then, there’s the value–this set is all FULL SIZED and sold separately would retail for $70 but you are getting all three products for a measly $42!! Available at Sephora stores and tartecosmetics.com You’d better hurry I have a feeling Gifts From The Lipstick Tree will sell out fast!
