Guest Review: L’oreal Absolut Repair Cellular Cleansing Balm

Good morning beauties! Today we are lucky to have our resident guest reviewer Patty here to tell us the discovery that transformed her hair….let us in on your secret Patty–PLEASE!

My name is Patty and I am a hair care junkie!  There, I said it.  Do I feel better?  I actually do because it’s what led me to a shampoo (a shampoo, people!) that has dramatically improved the condition of my hair.

My hair is about shoulder-length, fairly thick-stranded but I don’t have a lot of it.  I’m in my mid-to-late 40’s and have a very large percentage of gray that is expertly colored every 3 weeks by my beloved hair stylist Dana.  My hair is fairly sturdy considering what I put it through:  frequent color changes, blow-drying and flat-ironing.  I also get the occasional Brazilian Blowout.

Earlier this year I went quite blonde (aside from my gray, I’m naturally a brunette).  My newly blonde hair coupled with a too-hot flattening iron made my normally sturdy hair respond in a way that basically just said ENOUGH!  I had a few fried pieces and overall rough-textured hair.  My stylist and I continued to baby my hair, her snipping out the offensive bits and me turning DOWN my flattening iron, limiting the heating elements and massaging in the best masques I could find.

A couple of months ago, my stylist turned me on to L’Oreal’s newest line of hair care from the Serie Expert collection: Absolute Repair.  She especially raved about the Lactic Acid Cleansing Balm.  I was very skeptical and rolled my eyes and thought “yeah right, how much REALLY can a shampoo change my hair” I’m here to tell you that my hair has been literally TRANSFORMED!

The first time I used it, I thought something was wrong.  It is very, very thick, and hardly lathers at all.  I wash my hair every other day, so I typically do two lathers to remove product build-up and gym sweat.  When I went to rinse it out, I was blown away at how soft and silky my hair was from JUST a shampoo!  I lathered again since I just wasn’t convinced that my hair was clean.  I finished with my normal conditioner, and continued with my regular routine (It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin, blow-dry and flat-iron).  However, once I finished blow-drying, I discovered my hair was so soft and smooth that I didn’t even really need to flat-iron!  I did go over a few of the outer layers to add movement.  Over the next two days, I could not stop touching my hair.  It felt thick and healthy!

My stylist told me this shampoo is not to be used at every shampoo, but to be used every 2nd or 3rd shampoo.  I was like an addict and couldn’t get enough of this!  I continued my routine of washing every-other-day, but I only used this shampoo.  I figured that if a little is good, a lot is better, right?  The condition of my hair continued to improve, but after about two weeks I did notice my hair started to look a little flat.  I spoke with my stylist about it and she explained that it’s a very heavy shampoo and to alternate with something else.  I now shampoo with this every-other shampoo which equates to about once or twice a week usage.  My hair continues to improve and I now hardly ever even flat-iron!  I’ve become pretty proficient at smoothing my hair using round brushes, and will only use my flat-iron if I have some unruly areas or if I’m going out.

If you have fine hair or hair that is easily weighed down by products, this shampoo probably isn’t for you.  But if you have any damage and/or abuse your hair with heat products, this is an amazing weapon to have in your arsenal!

L’Oreal Professional products can be found at select salons.  The L’Oreal Professional line is quite large, so even a salon that carries the line my not carry the ENTIRE line.  I live in Southern California and I have fairly easy access to most beauty products.  Other than my salon, I don’t see this line very often at all.  Instead of going on a hunt in your local area, I would suggest ordering on-line. currently has this product listed in the 8.45 ounce size for $19.49USD.

One last note: If you do decide to try this shampoo, keep in mind there is also a regular shampoo in this line.  While I do also love that shampoo and it is now what I use on my “off days” from this product, the shampoo is not the product I’m reviewing today.  You want to make sure to get the Cleansing Balm – the shampoo and the Cleansing Balm are quite different.
