Frugal Friday with FLOWER Beauty!

FLOWER Beauty is the brainchild of actress/producer/director Drew Barrymore. Here at Prime Beauty headquarters, we adore Drew. I feel like I can call her Drew vs. Ms. Barrymore because she is so fun and down to earth she makes you feel like she’s one of your girlfriends. She started the line in 2013 and it is sold exclusively at Walmart. I love that Drew wanted to create quality makeup at an affordable price we can all enjoy. She boasts that she can keep prices low because she doesn’t spend money on advertising instead, putting her resources into the ingredients. I wish more brands would do this!

The kind people at Flower Beauty sent me a few things to try and I have to say these are effective, quality makeup products without the high price!

Let’s start with my obsession-eyeshadow. There are four Shadow Play Eyeshadow Quads ($10)and I got to try Foxy Browns ($10).  Each quad includes four complementary shadow shades designed to create coordinated look. Three of the shades have subtle shimmer, while the fourth is a matte shade. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised at how soft and creamy the shadows are–even the matte shade has a smooth texture. The pigmentation is also good and they blend exceptionally well. Foxy Browns has an icy pink matte, a lovely bronze, a deep chocolate and a very pretty taupe. Not super original shades but all play well together and deliver a polished look.

I didn’t get any creasing throughout the day but I always wear an eyeshadow primer. What I like best about this quad is the beautiful finish: there is a pretty sheen but they stop short of shimmer or glitter.

For this look, I used pink on the brow bone, taupe on the lid, bronze in the crease and the deep chocolate to line the upper and lower lash lines.

On to the cheeks! Isn’t this Flower Blush just adorable? Called Flower Pots ($10), these powder blushes were just released this spring. They are embossed with a pretty 3-D flower and impart a lovely flush of color. This shade is Warm Hibiscus which I think is misnamed. When I think of hibiscus I think of red or bright pink, but this blush is a warm peachy pink—my favorite shade to wear. Regardless, it too has a beautiful finish—not too shimmery but not flat with a silky texture. I would call it a lovely satin sheen that gives a pretty glow. Flower pots are available in four shades. Warm Hibiscus is great for fair skinned beauties. I find myself reaching for this often and that is something because I probably have 4, 392 blushes!

Next, I tried Flower Sheer Up Lip Tint ($9) in Lacy Laurel. These chubby lip tints come in a twist-up tube and don’t require sharpening which automatically scores brownie points with me. They have a balm-like feel with a sheer finish.  Though touted as sheer, after a few swipes, you can build up the color from sheer to medium coverage if so desired. They have a soft glossy shine and feels very comfortable to wear. Wear time is about 4 hours which isn’t bad for a balm type product. Lacy Laurel is a sheer peachy pink that will flatter all skin tones. I wish I knew how it got its name, I’m sure there has to be a story behind it! Sheer Up Lip Tints are available in a handful of colors and I hope that the line adds more soon. I should mention that these are fragrance-free for those that don’t like scented makeup products.

Flower EE Erase Everything Ultimate Foundation ($14) didn’t fare as well as the other products for me. I received the clear shade which is actually white and meant to be used as a primer. It comes in a tube with a brush attached so that the product is delivered directly into the bristles of the brush. I started out using the brush but quickly switched to using my hands for better absorption. Also, you end up with way too much product on the brush. It feels velvety smooth and does fill in pores and imperfections, however, it feels too thick for my liking. This is just a personal preference so you may feel differently. And… I do have an ungodly amount of lines and wrinkles I need to hide!

Here is the finished Flower Beauty look wearing all four of the products reviewed. This is such an easy look for everyday or weekends.  By the way, Flower Beauty is made here in the USA and does NOT test on animals!
In looking through the website, I see Flower now has fragrances, makeup bags, brushes and sets! Thanks Drew for keeping things fresh and constantly expanding the line! In fact, this Summer Chill set for $40 looks amazing!
Bottom Line: FLOWER Beauty is a real gem in drugstore beauty! The quality and formulas are excellent, the shades universally flattering and the price is awesome! Thanks Drew!

  • I kind of forgot about Flower. I have that same eye palette and kind of liked the lip products I tried from the line.

Try the Flower Beauty tri-palette highlighters. They’re a creamy powder finish in golden, champagne and pale pink. Beautiful! I also love the Warm Hibiscus blush (my fav) and Sweet Pea. Can’t wait to try the lip balms.

I stop by the Flower display whenever I get to Walmart and never know what to try. I think I’ve looked at that shadow quad and then ended up with nothing. Now that I’ve seen your nice swatches, that quad would be great to put in my summer beach bag for evenings when we go out or have events at the beach club

    • For sure! The quad doesn’t look like much in the package but it has great pigmentation and is smooth and creamy.

  • marciaf

That eyeshadow quad has me drooling. Those are the colors I always want even if I have them over and over. Thanks for saying the lip crayon is fragrance free since now I could use it.

    • I know what you mean, I buy the same colors over and over but I don’t care! The lip tints feel like a balm.

I didn’t even know she had a cosmetics line. I like the subtle colors, I am very fair skinned so I will have to check these out the next time I am at Walmart.
