Frugal Friday – Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser

Purchased by me

Beauties, primers are an over 40 woman’s secret weapon and you should be using one. Following up on the success on the Baby Lips Lip Balm, Maybelline introduces Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser. It was released earlier in Asia and now it’s made way to the States. I was looking forward to the launch here because it’s $6.99! A top notch primer for $6.99–I’m there! Color me disappointed–kind of.

According to the Maybelline website “Insta-blur technology visibly smoothes pores away. Can be worn alone or under makeup. Non-comedogenic and fragrance-free.”

Not sure what “Insta-blur technology is but I’m thinking it’s silicone because there are plenty of them in Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser. You will notice that dimethicone is the main ingredient in this primer which is silicone.  That is not necessarily bad; the silicone is what smooths out lines and wrinkles, it’s just that some people are sensitive to silicones so I thought it was worth mentioning. That said, this primer is very similar to Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, so if you like that you will be happy to find a cheaper version.

Maybelline Baby Pore Eraser

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser is a clear gel,; very lightweight unlike other primers I’ve tried. It does smooth your skin a bit, but not as well as  more expensive brands.  I prefer like Hourglass Veil or Laura Mercier Foundation primer.  Baby Skin doesn’t seem to “grab” foundation like the others. Yes, it allows foundation to glide on, but it doesn’t seem to last as long or is as hydrating as my new favorite Feel the Moment Serum Sensory Primer.  For me, I need something a little more heavy duty: I want something that fills in pores, not just glosses over them, I want a primer to really grabs my foundation,  and something that can handle my crow’s feet. That’s a tough order so I don’t expect a drugstore primer to be all that and a bag of chips. However, if you are looking for a basic primer, this one really is great.

You can tell tell a difference in the wrinkles on my hand, I’m so glad there is finally a good drugstore option for a face primer!

Bottom Line: If you are younger than me (and who isn’t?) and don’t need to fill in major cracks and crevices, Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser will work nicely for you. If you like Smashbox Photo Finish, this is a great budget option!

  1. I considered this but I ended up getting the new CoverGirl one because it seems more like the Mally Pore Defender we both like. I’ll start using the CG one for a review soon.
