Frugal Friday – L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes

I’ve been meaning to tell you about L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara for a few weeks now, and since Prime Beauty reader Paula asked what mascara I was wearing in last weeks’ Frugal Friday, I thought it fitting to feature L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara today.

Let’s see……. how to summarize this review? I’m diggin’ it.  Before writing this review, I checked on MakeupAlley to see what others thought–seems this mascara is very divisive–people either love it or hate it! I’m on the love side of the street, but having trouble finding a parking place. In other words, there are things I like about Voluminous Million Lashes and things I don’t.

The mascara wand is the rubber type with lots of little spikes–I love these types of wands. This one separates and lengthens really, really well. Despite the name Voluminous, I wouldn’t give this mascara high marks for volume, but if you have skimpy lashes, you will love how long this mascara can make them look. The formula has a ‘just right’ consistency–not too thick and not too thin; this allows you to get the desired length in one coat preventing clumps. The packaging actually has a “excess wiper” to prevent getting too much product on the brush and it works!

  • Brush provides nicely separated lashes
  • Lengthens very well
  • Brush allows you to capture every lash–hence the ‘million’
  • No clumping

  • Weird smell, although it does dissipate after applying
  • Can have a tendency to flake (but not always)
  • Contrary to the name, does NOT provide volume

Prime Beauty Grade: B

I have rather long lashes naturally, so I prefer a mascara that gives me some volume. That said, I do still love the length Voluminous Million Lashes provides. I don’t like the fact that it sometimes flakes– that is a deal breaker for me. The weird thing is it happens rarely but it DOES happen. What’s up with that?

If you have short or stumpy lashes I think you will really like Voluminous Million Lashes. If you have fairly long lashes, but may want to try something with more volume.

L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes retails for $8.99 and is available in Blackest Black, Black and Black Brown.

  1. wow your lashes look amazing (even sans mascara)!

  2. What a coincidence! I bought this mascara in the U.S. a couple months ago but I haven’t tried it yet. I really need both length and volume, so we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the post!

  3. That mascara looks terrific on you. I’m loaded with mascara but I may pick this up on sale one day.

  4. Thanks for sharing. I definitely have to try this. I have the hardest time finding good mascaras that don’t run down my face and that don’t make my lashes look as if their all clumped together. Great tip 🙂
    Have a great day,
