Frugal Friday L’Oreal De-Crease Eye Shadow Base

L’Oreal promises this eye shadow primer will smooth eyelids, even skin tone, keep eye shadow from creasing and “create a flawless canvas for application of powder or cream eye shadow”.  Packaged in a small plastic tube with a doe foot applicator, it did a fine job of keep my eye shadow in place for a good six hours. I can’t say it smoothed my eye lids and I don’t need to even the skin tone on my eye lids, but I’m sure it work fine for that too. What it doesn’t do is intensify the color like Urban Decay Primer Potion or last as quite as long. It’s not as smooth as Urban Decay or Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I didn’t experience this but other reviews have said it dries too quickly and can get patchy. As the product gets used up it becomes harder and harder to get more product out of the tube. L’Oreal De-Crease Eye Shadow Base does a fine job and nothing more. If you are a novice makeup addict, this is a good choice to get you started with using primers. If you are more advanced and wear eye shadow every day, there are better choices. Or, if you need a less expensive ($8) alternative to your more expensive eye shadow primer, give L’Oreal De-Crease a try!

  1. Hi Cindy;

    I used this product for a few years with great success; I keep a tube for bad eye days (I have very dark eye sockets and this shade is great for me). I wanted to pass along this tip: When it seems like the applicator is getting dry and it appears the tube is empty, DON’T toss it! Just like UDPP, there’s a ton more inside, once you pull out the white rubber insert at the neck of the tube! It’s not easy (I use flat-headed craft pliers) but sooooo very worth it when you see how much is now accessible. L’Oreal first offered two shades of this; the current yellow-tone shade and a darker shade which was perfect for dark or black skin. WHY they disc’d the darker shade is beyond me! But then I have lots of “WHY” questions for L’Oreal, beginning with all those gorgeous “On The Loose” shadows! 😛

  2. I was just looking for a good eyeshadow base as you do when you’re nearing 40. But from your post I would guess you’d rather recommend Urban Decay’s Primer Potion?

    • Daisy,
      If you are on a budget, the L’Oreal De-Crease is an option. I prefer Urban Decay all around but it’s around $17.
