kind of very much a picky eater and one thing I do NOT like are mushrooms–any kind of mushrooms. I don’t care if they’re huge like Portobello or expensive like Shiitake, or little rubber buttons, I just never got used to the texture or taste. There is just something about a fungi that grows in moist dirt in the dark under old moldy trees that isn’t appetizing to me. That’s why I was quite surprised to find that Shiitake complex was a key ingredient in my favorite new body moisturizer, AVEENO® POSITIVELY AGELESS® Skin Strengthening Body Cream. Lucky for me as an AVEENO Ambassador, I get to try the latest and greatest from the line, because had I known Shiitake mushrooms were an ingredient, I probably wouldn’t have tried it. Yes, I know I need to expand my horizons–I’m working on it, K? The natural Shiitake Complex in the AVEENO® POSITIVELY AGELESS® collection has been shown to help visibly improve the appearance of skin’s firmness, texture and elasticity. Your skin will feel and look younger. While I can’t say my skin looks better, it certainly feels better.
This rich thick cream absorbs beautifully and keeps my winter ashy legs hydrated but not greasy all day long. One of my pet peeves with moisturizers is that most are greasy, I have a real aversion to it from living in Arizona for so long. The air is SO dry there that I had to keep lotion on at all times but I hated the greasy feeling I got; if I was the least bit hot (which was ALWAYS). I would turn into a slick slippery mess–kind of like a candle melting. AVEENO® POSITIVELY AGELESS® Skin Strengthening Body Cream keeps my skin hydrated without feeling oily, its’ only when I shower the next morning, that the hydration disappears.
As we get older, environmental factors and natural aging cause our skin to lose elasticity from dehydration. Southernwood is another key ingredient used in the POSITIVELY AGELESS line. It is a combination of natural sugars and polyphenols that help to bind water to skin prevent moisture loss and fortify the skin’s moisture barrier for stronger and ultimately younger looking skin. I haven’t used this body cream long enough to see a difference but I will report back.
AVEENO also has the fab formula in a hand cream! This cream has been clinically shown to moisturize for 24 hours. I can honestly say this is the best hand cream I’ve tried in a long time. I wash my hands a LOT. I work with a bunch of nurses and I have the “sterile handwashing technique ” drilled into me. Seriously, students in the bathrooms at work say they can always tell someone from the nursing or science department by how long it takes them to wash their hands–haha! Anyway, I am constantly washing and therefore my hands are dry year ’round. Previously I was using the new Burt’s Bees line Güd but AVEENO® POSITIVELY AGELESS® Skin Strengthing Hand Cream works even better! I hope to see some improvement in the crepiness on my hands soon.
The Aveeno Positively Ageless Skin Strengthening Body and Hand Cream are sold at your local drugstore and retail for about $5.99 -$7.99.
Have I changed my mind about mushrooms? Hell to the NO! I don’t mind them as an ingredient in my skincare but I’m eating them. So there! Have you tried either of these products? Thoughts?
