Foundation Nation – Hourglass Veil Fluid

We beauty bloggers are a tight bunch. When one of us finds something they like, news travels fast. On the flip side, if something doesn’t work for us, we are not above “swapping’ for something that does.

This is exactly how I came to own Hourglass Veil Fluid SPF 15 Foundation. The lovely Shannon from Lipstick Musings swapped with me–she got a red lipstick which she covets and I got a foundation which I now covet. It’s a win-win!

Hourglass Veil has just the right amount of coverage for me. It’s not too sheer but not heavy or cakey either. The finish is stunning–satin, but when it mixes with the little bit of natural oil I have left in my skin, it becomes just slightly dewy. It looks very natural but still covers my freckles (aka sun damage) and the slight redness around my nose and on my chin. Honestly, it just looks flawless–almost airbrused when applied with a foundation brush.

This is proving to be one of my favorite foundations at the moment. It covers better than Lancome Miracle, is not as dry as Make Up For Ever HD, and doesn’t slide off my face like BECCA Stick Foundation. Truly, Hourglass seems to have found the perfect formula for us over 40 women. It seems especially suited to mature, dry to normal skin types.

Deets from Hourglass:

The formulation contains Matrixyl to support the body’s natural ability to produce collagen and help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, as well as Skin Tightener ST to improve texture and promote younger looking skin. It is oil-free, parabens-free, fragrance-free, and has SPF 15.

The wear is great–a good 10-12 hours, it does not settle into pores or lines and feels lighweight while maintaining good coverage. I use much less concealer when using Hourglass Veil. I also like the feeling of it–too many foundations have tons of silicone in them and they just slide around my face–this stays put without looking dry.

Packaging: A sanitary pump bottle

Quality: Excellent formula, blends easily, very long lasting.

Value: Hourglass veil is expensive at $60 for a 1 oz. bottle. I personally would rather pay that and quit messing around for something better when I can get a flawless look from this.

Best For: Mature, dry to normal skin types. Anyone that likes a satin, slightly dewy, natural  finish

Overall: I really love the flawless finish Hourglass Veil gives me. I wish they had a better shade selection–there are only 8 shades available.  Just a little dab of product does go a long way, however it’s pricey at $60. Be prudent and make sure to ask for a sample at your local Sephora to make sure you get a good color match and like the formula before purchasing.

  1. This is a good winter foundation for me but doesn’t work in the summer but then again not much lasts on me when the weather is hot.

  2. Cindy,

I’m so glad you like it! I figured it might be perfect for you, given your coloring and skin type. I, too, wish they offered more shades…they just don’t have anything light enough and neutral/cool enough for me. Sadly, I don’t look good with warmer undertones. It’s the vampire in me. Too bad, since otherwise it would be one of my top picks.
