Review, Pics, Swatches: Fashion Flair Sam Fine Supreme Color Lipsticks

The latest dream team in cosmetics is from Fashion Flair and celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine. In honor of it’s 40th year anniversary, Fashion Fair has collaborated with Sam Fine to create The Sam Fine For Fashion Fair Supreme Color Collection which includes 8 lipsticks, two eye shadow quads and a gloss.

“Its been such a privilege to work with Fashion Fair to create this inspired collection,” says Sam Fine. “As a pioneer in the cosmetics industry, Fashion Fair has truly changed the way we approach beauty. I’m excited for what the future holds for our collaboration.”

Here’s the thing. Sam Fine is a beauty guru for women of color as is the Fashion Fair brand. How this awesome collection ended up at my door step I have no idea since I’m a white girl, but I sure am glad it did! I don’t care if you’re a blue smurf, this collection of Sam Fine Supreme Color Lipsticks ($22) is amaze-balls!

Each shade is equally rich and pigmented and has a lovely glossy sheen.  They are so ultra moisturizing they almost feel like a balm. The creamy texture glides on like a whisper and lucky for us Over 40 gals, does not emphasize lines. They are not sticky, have no fragrance and last half a day.

The color range is gorgeous with reds, nudes, a bright pink and some deep vampy shades. If you prefer subdued, more natural colors, there are a few to choose from. However, if you like strong, vivid colors, this line if for you!

  • Champagne Toast – a beige nude with a touch of peach. A great everyday shade
  • Whispering Rose – a nude pink ( I didn’t have the opportunity to try this one)
  • Deep Suede – warm caramel
  • Pink Parfait – a bright bold pink–so fun for summer!
  • Moroccan Spice – vibrant orange (my daughter stole this)
  • Dynasty Red – true blue-based bright red (my daughter stole this one too)
  • Cognac – a brown with the most beautiful gold shimmer–lovely for a bronzed goddess look.
  • African Violet – a deep blackberry–Gorgeous!  (reminds me of Clinique Black Honey but more pigmented)

Left to Right: Champagne Toast, Deep Suede, Cognac, Pink Parfait, Moroccan Spice, Dynasty Red, African Violet.

My daughter was visiting from out-of-town last weekend and had forgotten her signature red lipstick (forget your makeup—uh, where does she get that from?) so I gave her Dynasty Red to try and she loved it. Then she had to try Moroccan Spice and loved that–in fact she mixed the two together and it was stunning!  The she wanted to try African Violet which was similar to a Calvin Klein shade we had been looking at that day. African Violet is much more pigmented than Calvin Klein and feels ten times better on the lips. Anywho, I’m telling all this because she is even paler than me (almost invisible) and she looked fabulous in these deeper shades! Not being as adventurous as her, I’ve been wearing Champagne Toast nearly everyday for the last few weeks and loving it. The only downside is that these lipsticks feel so great you will constantly be rubbing your lips together. Well, maybe that’s just me 🙂 I get a good 4-5 hours of wear and that includes eating and drinking so I’m cool with that.

L to R: Champagne Toast, Moroccan Spice, African Violet, Cognac, Deep Suede, Pink Parfait, Dynasty Red

Packaging is a lovely gold tube with the delicate Sam Fine logo. There is also a Supreme Shine Lip Gloss ($20) in Canary Diamond, a lovely sparkly gold that would look spectacular over the lipsticks!

The Sam Fine Fashion Fair Collection is available now on

Bottom Line: I am super impressed with the Sam Fine Supreme Color Lipsticks–they rival any high-end brand for texture, wear, the gorgeous shades and the perfect amount of shine. And.. they are only $22 compared to over $30 for some luxury brands. I don’t care if you’re a blue Smurf, a green alien or polka dotted, check out the Sam Fine for Fashion Flair line!

  • Beautiful colors and they sound heavenly to wear. Glad to hear news from Fashion Fair. Even tho’ I’m fair like you, I find that colors developed for dark skinned women look good on me too, I think because of the red hair. Do you know if there are available at retail? I’m interested in the two neutral shades but I always like to try ’em on.

    • As far as I know online only but I will check into it for you.

  • These are so gorgeous!! I want them all, but Whispering Rose and African Violet are calling my name!!

  • I saw Moroccan Spice and thought of you and your coral love. I bet this would look great on you.

    • Moroccan Spice more orange than coral

  • I’d steal away your Moroccan Spice as well 🙂 And Champagne looks lovely. Dynasty reminds me of something my mom wears though.

  • Joanna

They’re such gorgeous shade. Loving the African Violet and Cognac! Thanks for the amazing swatches 🙂

  • I love all the shades and I want to get them all right now. I want the Pink Parfait and Moroccan Spice and I think these lipstick shades are truly perfect for Spring.
