The Academy Awards are over but I’d like to give an Oscar to Covergirl. You’ve come a loooooong way baby! All drugstore brands have really stepped up their game and we are seeing palettes, primers and super effective skincare grace grocery aisles all over the country.
Many brands like L’Oreal, Maybelline and Revlon have jumped on the iconic nude eyeshadow palette trend made popular by Urban Decay. None of the other brands have done it as well as Covergirl though. The new truNAKED shadow palettes have excellent color payoff and perform as well as a $50 eye shadow palette (according to the Covergirl label). You and I know they are referring to the Urban Decay Naked palettes. And I’m happy to say Covergirl is a VERY close second.
Truthfully, I’ve never been a huge Covergirl fan except when I was in my teens and that was pretty much all there was to choose from besides Bonne Bell. However, Covergirl has impressed the daylights out of me with some of their new spring offerings, truNAKED Shadow Palettes being at the forefront.
There are three variations available: Nudes, Goldens and Pink & Roses. I know what you’re thinking: “why does she need ANOTHER nude eye shadow palette?” And you would be right to speculate, but I chose the golden palette so it’s not really nude, at least that’s how I justified it. Don’t question, just go with it, m’kay?
“Get the same look as a leading $50 eye shadow palette! trunaked eyeshadow palettes feature universally flattering, neutral shades that are made to be blended together, so you can mix and match colors and always look flawless. Each eye shadow palette comes with 8 highly pigmented shades, and endless possibilities.”
The formula is creamy smooth, easily blendable and very pigmented. I assumed the texture would be somewhat hard so I was thrilled when I only needed one swipe of my brush to get saturated color. If you swipe back and forth more than that you will get fallout because the shadows are so soft. These are so nicely pigmented, they do NOT fade even without primer. The color payoff is excellent for the price!
The Goldens palette contains warmer shades of beige, tan, olive and brown. Shades are a gradient of light to dark so you can create a range of looks from natural to smoky. There is also a nice balance of matte and shimmers: three matte shades and five shimmers. Kudos to Covergirl for making the matte shades as buttery as the shimmers–something not many higher-end brands are able to accomplish.
The matte cream shade blends into my skin so much I couldn’t capture it on my camera.
I love the shimmer in the bronze and olive shades–subtle but adds a pretty sheen!
Bottom Line: The truNAKED Golden shadow palette is an exceptionally pretty and high quality eye shadow palette that rivals higher-end brands. The pigmentation, texture and endurance of the shadows make it a fabulous beauty bargain! I still can’t believe it’s $10!
“COVERGIRL will have you saying Oh Sugar! with a fresh, new vitamin-infused lip balm that provides a pampering, sensorial experience at a better-than-fresh price. And what’s even sweeter than the citrus scent, decadent shade palette and delicious sugary taste? The price! Soft, naturally-moisturized lips never looked (or tasted) so sweet.”
Covergirl’s new Oh Sugar! lip balms are so cute I couldn’t resist! The packaging is girly and sweet, with clean, pastel metallic tubes. Although the packaging is darling, you cannot trust the color on the outside to be what’s inside–they are way off so try to find testers to get a real idea of what each shade looks like.
I picked up these four shades at Walgreen’s when they were buy one get one half off. From left to right they are: Taffy, Spice, Punch and Sprinkle. Covergirl says Oh Sugar Lip Balms deliver “a hint of sheer color.” I found them to be much more pigmented than that and they are buildable–if you swipe back and forth a few times you can intensify the color. What I like best is that these feel lightweight, not waxy due to the formula.
The formulation includes grapeseed oil, avocado butter & Vitamins C & E to protect and smooth lips. Thin oils absorb quickly into lips while a thin protective layer locks in moisture, that’s why they don’t feel thick or greasy. They glide on lips like buttah.
There are 10 shades available: Cupcake, Candy, Caramel, Taffy, Spice, Punch, Soda, Sprinkle, Jelly & Gumdrop.
Covergirl hints at comparing Oh Sugar! Lip Balms to Fresh Sugar lip treatments: “we dare you to compare to a $20 balm!” They do have the same lovely lemon sugar scent but Fresh Sugar lip treatments melt into your lips better. Still for $7.99 Oh Sugar! is a great budget option.
