Have you ever had a great idea and then not followed through with it? I’ve had a few only to discover I wasn’t the only one and someone went on to make a fortune! My daughter has always, from the age of two years old, been obsessed with shoes. I have NO idea where that comes from :) Several years ago when she was about eight or nine and we were on a long car trip, I gave her a sketch pad to draw with and she sketched out a flip-flop shoe with changeable bands so you could change the color and pattern of the straps but the sole would remain the same. While shopping a few years ago, I saw that exact shoe for sale in Macy’s,–thwarted again and another fortune lost! It had not until now, ever occurred to me to marry hand cream and lip balm in one convenient package! And the packaging is very luxe feeling; even the box is pretty. That’s pure genius at work right there. Dayam, why didn’t I think of that?
This duo has the approval of probably every major beauty blog (and me) with good reason. Votre Vu’s Duette Lip Balm and Hand Cream ($38) is pure brilliance. Made with coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax, the lip balm is not thick or sticky, has UV filters to add extra protection (making it especially good for summertime use) and softens lips beautifully. However, the le coup de matre (see how I managed to get some in French in?) is the decadent hand creme. What makes this hand creme different is that it contains sun filters for UVA/UVB protection, which I can totally appreciate at my age. We women spend thousands of dollars a year on face and neck creams forgetting the hands are one of the first places that show age. Mine are riddled with sun damage so I am especially grateful to have a hand creme with sun protection and have been using this everyday! The fragrance is named Almond Pie, but I disagree–it should be Almond cookies! It literally smells so good I am tempted to eat it. A delicious concoction of almond and coconut fragrance, protecting sunflower, grape seed and jojoba oils combined with moisturizing and healing aloe, wheat proteins, the creme instantly absorbs and does not leave my hands greasy. Honest! I can even touch a doorknob after applying :) It will leave your hands soft, supple and smelling divine! You will want several tubes of Votre Vu’s Duette Lip Balm and Hand Cream–I put lip balm on every night at bedtime so I have one in my nightstand: now I need one for my purse and one for my desk at work. No lie, it’s that’s great!
Votre Vu’s Mal-Ligne Wrinkle Eraser ($56) literally means ‘bad line’ in French. I have a few of these ‘bad lines’ myself. Mostly smile lines and crow’s feet, or as I like to call them ‘expression lines’. After seeing a picture of myself about 7 or 8 years ago and seeing the dryness under my eyes and realizing I had crow’s feet, I vowed to never smile again which lasted about 2 hours. After that failed attempt at erasing lines, I have used quite a few wrinkle eraser products; some work temporarily and some don’t work at all. I would say Mal-Ligne falls somewhere in between. The good news: it’s not temporary but rather cumulative. I have been using this every morning for about 3 weeks as instructed on the box and my crow’s feet and laugh lines have softened a bit but certainly not disappeared. I believe there is a noticeable difference in my left eye where the crow’s have tramped around more leaving a deeper mark. I’m not quite sure if my laugh lines have lessened; sometimes I think yes, sometimes no. Maybe I’m just grumpier than usual. I didn’t remember to take before pictures so I am relying on memory which isn’t always reliable. Regardless, this serum/cream is lightweight, absorbs well, and works really well under makeup; no balling, pilling, or greasiness. Mal-Ligne’s ingredients are a proprietary blend of collagen builders, antioxidants and botanically based stimulants. Through the use of collagen, elastin and Monoi Tiare Oil, a Polynesian skincare oil, this serum purportedly diminishes wrinkles, firms, hydrates and produces a “radiant glow.” I didn’t notice a glow, but I do like the lightweight feel. Other anti-aging ingredients include marine boots, tiare and jojobas oils, and hyaluronic acid—as Martha Stewart would say–that’s a good thing. I should tell you, I only used the serum once a day in the morning like the directions advise, but I think I will start using it at night too to see if that accelerates the results. Overall, this is probably the best wrinkle relaxer I’ve tried with the exception of StiVectin but those results are temporary–and we’re talkin’ a few hours.
