The changing of the seasons is a bit magical don’t you think? I really missed that when I lived in Phoenix, Arizona—nothing ever changed. No glorious spring flowers to watch bloom, no brisk mornings filled with leaves changing color and certainly no chance to watch quiet snowflakes fall on a bright winter’s night. I decided while living there that I would change my fragrance to signify the change in the seasons and I’ve been doing it ever since. Now that spring is officially here and summer is not far behind, I’m changing my fragrance to something softer, lighter and more playful. Warning: if you like heavy, oriental or very spicy scents, this post is not for you. However, if you like fruity-florals (some with a warm base) you will want to check out each of these luscious scents and don’t forget Mother’s Day is coming soon (hint to you know who you are)!
Here are some of my choices for beautiful spring/summer scents whose presentation is as exquisite as the fragrance inside!
Don’t let the original fruitiness and sweetness of La vie est belle seem too ho-hum, for this fragrance is something special with the reverse arrangement of notes making it oh so interesting as it dries down. It is elegant, feminine and polished. Many fragrances don’t last with my chemistry, but this one lasts all day and has good sillage. I have never been a fan of Lancôme scents but my experience with La vie est belle has changed that, I always get compliments when I wear it!
Packaging is a lovely heavy glass falcon with a jaunty grey ribbon.

Guess Girl is perfect for spring and summer as it features top notes of Raspberry Nectar, Melon and Bergamot, combined with middle notes of Brazilian Paradise Orchid, Provence Acacia Flower and Lily. It finishes with base notes of Australian Sandalwood and Madagascar Vanilla. Guess Girl is advertised as a scent for a girl in her twenties; fun and vivacious. While I agree the juice is light-hearted, it also has an alluring aspect to it due to the base notes. It reminds me a bit of Lola by Marc Jacobs but I like Guess Girl much better because of the fruity notes–it’s not so one-dimensional. I think the advertising campaign is totally off-base. Described as girly and playful, it conjures an image of a sugary sweet, cotton candy scent. Guess Girl is much deeper than a Tinkerbell-type fragrance. I appreciate that it doesn’t fade after a few hours, but rather lasts more than 10 hours on me which is unusual. Maybe I’m just extremely immature, (no comments!) but I like this fruity-floral fragrance with a warm heart.
Where Guess Girl shows it’s youthfulness is in the design of the bottle. It appears much more glamorous in the picture than it does on my vanity. Unfortunately it looks kinda of cheap in person. The “rose” on top of the bottle is made of pink tulle fabric that doesn’t form a rose at all and in fact, looks out of place. Still, what’s inside is worth a try!

Last summer I fell head over stilettos for Valentina, the sweet, fresh and carefree scent from the house of Valentino. The year, perfumer Oliver Cresp introduces Valentina Assoluto, her badass sister. This new arrival is determined to stir things up with an intense chypre signature at the heart of the fragrance. While Valentina may have been a flirt, Valentina Assoluto is a seductress. The term *chypre is French for Cyprus, and goes back to François Coty who created in 1917 a perfume of the same name from fragrance materials that came predominantly from Mediterranean countries. Chypre perfumes are characterized by an accord composed of citrus top-notes, a middle centered on cistus labdanum, and a mossy-animalistic base-note derived from oak moss and musks. How THAT for sensual?
Valentina Assoluto stands for a modern heiress who knows how to play with her sensual aura. She is more intentionally seductive, and has something slightly provocative and dramatic in her attitude. Her magnetism remains unaffected but intense – her fragrance reflects her precious and intense femininity.
Key notes: bergamot, peach, white truffle, jasmine, tuberose, cedarwood, patchouli, oakmoss, Madagascar vanilla. Does this not sound AMAZING!
Top notes: The alluring fruitiness of sensual smeggia peach enhanced with the luxurious Alba truffle.
Middle notes: The magnetism of a precious bouquet of white flowers (jasmine, tuberose and orange blossom) magnified by a delicate vanilla.
Base notes: The mystery of a voluptuous chypre signature, fusion of magnetic patchouli, oak moss and vibrant cedar wood.
This is definitely a grown-up scent. Feminine and sophisticated, it makes me feel confident and powerful, but with an unmistakable feminine flair. The bottle still has the same round shape as the original but the color is a murky smoke with one large flower versus three smaller ones. Just another reminder that Valentina Assoluto is a darker, sexier version of the original and the woman I want to be!
Price: $117 for 2.7 oz and $88 for 1.7 oz. A “Mother’s Day” set will be available for $117 that contains a 2.7 oz EDP Spray and a 6.8 oz Body Lotion)
Another womanly floral scent, this one has luminous green top notes that join a heart of rich and exotic tiger orchid and lingering base notes of sweet toffee and Indonesian patchouli. It is decidedly more laid-back and casual than Valentina Assoluto, but not nearly as sultry or complicated. The fragrance opens with a dose of sweetness then dries down to a woody musk mixed with the Indonesian patchouli, and just a bit of toffee. It’s very pretty if not terribly unique.
The bottle is beautiful although it’s hard to tell the difference between it and Flowerbomb. I have a mini bottle of each and it’s easy to get them mixed up. Still the opulence of the faceted Venetian Murano looks lovely on a vanity or dressing table.
Price: 1.3. oz. Eau de Parfum, $55, 2 oz. Eau de Parfum spray $75, 3.3 oz. $98, Rollerball $25.

TOCCA Liliana I have a sample from Sephora
Tocca’s newest fragrance, Liliana is lush floral with notes of Gardenia, White Peony, Watery Peach mixed in with Sandalwood and Musk.
“A lush, green, rolling lawn is the setting for a roaring 20s party in full swing. Liliana conjures a reveler in the bloom of youth dancing the Charleston amidst flowing bottles of champagne and a spirited jazz band. The lowering sun casts a golden sparkle as an intoxicating bouquet of muguet, gardenia and peony wafts from the gardens, filling the night with joie de vivre”.
Liliana makes for a perfect scent to transition from winter to spring. In my experience, TOCCA fragrances, tend to come on strong and then settle down with time and Liliana is no exception. Don’t let Liliana’s moniker fool you, Lily is not the prominent note. Muguet, or lily of the valley is in the mix but the bottom notes prevail as the scent dries down.
- Top Notes: Italian Bergamot, Neroli, Watery Peach
- Middle Notes: Muguet, Gardenia, White Peony
- Bottom Notes: Sandalwood, Musk, Benzoin, Patchouli
Can’t you just see Daisy Buchanan from the new movie The Great Gatsby wearing this fragrance? I love the lush florals, hint of peach and the sweet musk base.
The packaging is TO DIE FOR. A heavy fluted round bottle with a gorgeous bronze top embellished with birds and branches. It truly is stunning and has an old world antique feeling like you’ve been given a treasure from the past. Even the box is lovely with the words “love yourself” emblazoned on it.
I feel very biased doing this review because I am a TOCCA lover, I currently have a bottle of Bianca on my vanity, a roller ball of Graciella and a sample of Liliana. TOCCA fragrances are romantic and feminine without ever reaching into cloying or saccharin territory.
