Darphin Skincare: French Luxury At It’s Best and a Giveaway!

Darphin Aromatic Cleansing Balm with Rosewood: Review and Pictures

The French do everything right, don’t they? Fashion, wine, perfume, skincare and macaroons! I’ve recently been introduced to Darphin, a French luxury skincare brand. Everything about the brand whispers elegance and opulence not to mention efficacy.

Founded in 1958, Pierre Darphin revolutionized aesthetic care by opening one of the first beauty institutes in Paris for complete body, hair and skin care solutions. Custom-tailored to specific, personal needs, Pierre Darphin believed that a woman’s skin is a mirror, reflecting her life. What a beautiful viewpoint!

Darphin products are specifically formulated to envelop the user in a multi-dimensional, multi-sensory delight. From the elegant packaging and lovely scents to the custom formulas, Darphin skincare brings a little bit of French glamour to your vanity. In fact, their philosophy is “More than skincare, an art.” When testing their products, I found this to be absolutely true.

I had the pleasure of trying the Darphin Aromatic Cleansing Balm ($45). I’ve used cleansing oils before, but nothing quite like this. I believe I’ve found my ‘Holy Grail’ cleanser! Suitable for all skin types, the balm is housed in a large tub. I glide three fingertips over the balm rather than digging in to it, then apply dry using circular motions to each part of my face. I found that I needed to repeat this three times for my entire face–one time for each side of my face and one time for my forehead. The texture is thick but very soothing–so soothing and comforting that I like to linger in this stage for a bit. When you add water, the balm instantly turns into a milky emulsion, rinse and you’re done. My skin feels ultra soft and smooth with no tightness whatsoever–it actually feels conditioned as opposed to tight and dry. You can also wet your face first and then apply the balm–this will make it emulsify immediately but I MUCH prefer applying to a dry face, it gives the balm a chance to deep clean, erasing stubborn make-up and sunscreen. And deep clean it does! I conducted a little test by cleansing with the balm, then using my stronger toner, DDF 10% Glycolic to see if there was any residual make-up left–my cotton pad came clean! This was never my experience with cleansing oils–in fact I would have to cleanse again after using the oil to get ALL my make-up off, which kind of defeats the purpose. This product, beauties, is ideal for women over 40!

The aroma reminds me of a high-end spa and the scent is indeed aromatherapy inspired. It’s not a perfume or fragrance smell, but more botanical, Darphin recommends taking a deep inhale of the balm before applying.

Not only is the texture unique, the ingredients are also what makes this cleansing balm special (with the exception of sauge officinale, all are organic).

  • Marula Oil
  • Sauge Officinale
  • Ylang Ylang and Rosewood Essential Oils
  • Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract

All of these combine to nourish and relieve dry skin, improve suppleness and enhance the skin’s natural glow. The lipid enriched formula is also non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested. Darphin has a unique and luxurious approach to skincare that provides an extraordinary experience with extraordinary results!

Overall Thoughts: If you have dry or sensitive skin, Darphin Aromatic Cleansing Balm may be the solution you’ve been looking for. It has made my dry winter skin sing! It is on the pricey side ($45) but honestly this tub will probably last me a year and I will gladly pay the extra pennies for the fabulous feeling my skin gets from this cleansing balm. This is one of those products that makes me wish I was Queen of the Land so I could gift every woman over 40 with a tub of Darphin Aromatic Cleansing Balm. Ladies, wash your face, relax and have a French macaroon!

Darphin STIMULSKIN Plus Eye Contour Cream is a Smooth Operator

I was also able to try the Darphin STIMULSKIN Plus Eye Contour Cream. This rich emollient eye cream hydrates beautifully without being the least bit greasy, and the hydration lasts all day. Just like the singer Sade, it’s a smooth operator–it absorbs fully making my under eye area instantly feels smoother. Missing from this formula is something that is a pet peeve of mine with other eye creams and that is that some ‘ball up’ under concealer–not the case with STIMULSKIN Plus Eye Contour Cream, in fact it helps concealer apply with ease and looks smooth all day. Packaging is an elegant glass jar with a ‘spoon’ applicator for sanitary purposes. Speaking of the formula, key ingredients include:

  • Deepsane
  • MDI-Complex
  • Centella Asiatica
  • Mango and Chamomile Extracts
  • Wheat Proteins

As with most eye creams, apply with your ring finger, from the inner to the outer orbit of the eye, patting on. Using twice daily, AM and PM, my lines do appear softer and my under eye area brightened. I didn’t see any lessening of my under eye puffiness and I don’t have dark circles so I can’t speak to that. Darphin’s Dark Circle Relief and De-Puffing Eye Serum addresses those specific issues. I have terrible allergies and my eyes can get itchy and watery. I’m pleased to say STIMULSKIN Plus does not migrate into my eyes when they start watering, which for me is a big plus!

Overall Thoughts: I’ve tried many, many eye creams and I love the consistency of Darphin’s STIMULSKIN Plus Eye Contour Cream, it’s rich but lightweight and incredibly hydrating without feeling greasy. If your eye area is dry and needs extra moisture or you are getting fine lines and wrinkles, Darphin STIMULSKIN Plus Eye Contour Cream may be your answer. I have been testing the at-home PaloVia Laser on my crow’s feet and consequently the area around my eyes is very dry. I can apply STIMULSKIN Plus Eye Contour Cream before bed and in the morning all the dryness and flakiness is gone–amazing! Are you sure you weren’t talking about this eye cream, Sade?

Prime Beauty Grade: A- (A+ product, but I took off a few marks because it is expensive– $135 for a 0.5 oz. jar. There are a lot more expensive skincare products out there, but this one does a really great job so I still stand by my grade of A-).

Although both these products sound like heaven, if I had to pick one it would be the cleansing balm. I’m a recent convert to the world of cleansing oils and balms and this one has been on my “to try” list for some time. I have dry sensitive skin that does NOT like to be soaped up,, but I wear mineral makeup and physical sunscreens which are difficult to thoroughly remove. I’m already an ardent fan of darphins purifying balm and aromatic oils and from what ive read about this balm, I think it could be my next holy grail product!
