Caudalie began in 1993 when college sweethearts Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas (who were working at a winery for the summer) met a prominent scientist from the Bordeaux University of Pharmacy. The professor went on to share one of his discoveries: polyphenols–contained in grape seeds, which, once stabilized, have priceless benefits for the skin due to their incredible capacity to trap free radicals and fight aging. And so, the skincare line Caudalie was born. According to the Caudalie website, the company was named after a French wine making term. “Caudalie” is an oenological French term that quantifies the duration of a wine’s flavor in your mouth. One second of time equals one Caudalie. The finer the wine, the longer its flavor lingers on the palate – thus meriting more Caudalies! “The greater the wine is the more caudalies it has.”
The Vinoperfect Day Perfecting Cream SPF15 is a skillful multitasker bringing radiance to the skin, providing sun protection and acting as a makeup primer all in one!
The Key ingredients include:
- Patented Viniferine to fade dark spots and bring radiance to the skin (reportedly 62 times more effective than Vitamin C)!
- Papaya enzyme as a mild exfoliator
- Powders and Tannins to minimize the look of pores and smooth and perfect the skin
- Glycolic Acid (my BFF skincare ingredient) to deep clean pores, help with fines lines and wrinkles and improve skin texture and tone
Other helpful ingredients are of course the sunscreen of SPF 15, olive squalane and fair trade shea butter to hydrate and Provitamin B5 to soothe the skin. This cream absorbs rapidly and helps enhance brightness. I also found it to be very moisturizing and an excellent makeup primer. When I started wearing makeup again after my VI Chemical Peel, I looked to Caudalie Vinoperfect Day Perfecting Cream to give my parched skin some much needed hydration and to hide any residual flaky skin. The cream is flesh colored but don’t mistake it for a tinted moisturizer–it’s NOT. The color gives no hue to the skin. It does a impressive job as a primer, filling in pores and fine lines without “balling” up under foundation.
For us women over 40, who wish to regain a bright, radiant, complexion and need to fill in those cracks and crevices, Caudalie Vinoperfect Day Perfecting Cream is an excellent choice. I do need to tell you that it is expensive. $68 for a 1 oz. tube. You are getting three products in one; moisturizer, primer and sunscreen although I wish it was higher than 15. If budget is an issue, there are less expensive options, however, if you want to treat yourself and your skin, this is a good pick.
Claudlie recommends applying each morning in conjunction with the Vinoperfect Correcting Radiance Serum. There are other products in this category as well; Vinoperfect Cell Renewal Night Cream, Vinoperfect Enzymatic Mask and Vinoperfect Day Perfecting Fluid.

A Side Note: Mathilde Thomas, owner of Claudalie started her own blog and I’ve been enjoying it very much. “I created my new blog “Notes from Mathilde” to share the unique experience behind-the-vines of Caudalie. In it I’ll share what inspires me – from my favorite places to art and music to beautiful objects for the home. Stay current with new products and formulations from Caudalie including “making-of” post about the process I go through with my product development team years in advance of a product launch. The people who surround me each day will contribute to the blog as well – our Vinothérapists will weigh in on the latest spa treatments; world-renowned scientist Dr. Vercauteren will share his skincare expertise; and influencers from the fashion, beauty industries will share their opinions on what’s chic now.” “There’s so much more to discover on www.caudalie-usa.com/blog! I hope you and your readers enjoy reading it as much as I’ve enjoyed creating it!” There is a very interesting article on Mathilde’s blog right now about the ingredient Viniferine, a key ingredient in Claudalie Vinoperfect Day Perfecting Cream!
