butterLONDON Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection

Seattle based nail care company, butterLONDON  has a wonderful reputation and deservedly so. High fashion colors, excellent wear time,  formaldehyde, toluene, DBP and paraben free.  I especially love the British influence and the names of the polishes. You see, I was married to a Brit  for 10 years. I’ve been to the UK several times and am fairly familiar with the slang.  My mother-in-law actually called me “pet.”

My first date with my ex-husband  was an outing for pizza. It was in the early 80′s, I was a naive 22 yr. old girl and he was a handsome 35 yr.old  Brit with an accent that immediately had me swooning.  However, I will never forget at the end of the date he said “okay then, I’ll knock up tomorrow afternoon” I was *gobsmacked!!!  My jaw must have been on the floor because he then explained that meant he would knock on door the next day. Whew, what a cheeky devil! I digress.

butterLONDON has been a backstage staple at Fashion Week  since 2005.  The new Autumn/Winter collection is inspired by the rich textures seen on the catwalk–tweed, satin, velvet and sequins!  The colour tones speak to “earthiness” but are not specifically earth tones–think rust, shimmering greens and silvers. This collection feels future-forward but not futuristic. This season is all about using texture to add interest and depth to your look?

The Autumn/Winter collection consists of 5 new nail lacquers–Dodgy Barnett, Gobsmacked, Lovely Jubbly, Shag and Trustafarian.

Lovely Jubbly – a vibrant magenta flecked with red, blue and gold micro particles. (Brit speak for excellent)

Trustafarian – a golden holographic sage green. (a spoiled rich kid who pretends to be a hippy but still goes home to Daddy’s mansion on the weekend)

Gobsmacked – a charcoal grey glitter with a slightly textured finish. (*totally speechless)

Shag – a high shine metallic warm orange-burgundy (slang for “doing the nasty,” “knocking boots,” YOU know sex!) My ex-husband told me his first car was a van which he named The Shaggin’ Wagon.

Dodgy Barnett – a holographic between grey and silver. ( a bad hairdo–a mullet would definitely qualify)

I tested Dodgy Barnett, Lovely Jubbly and Shag.

Dodgy Barnett is a pale silver with a holographic finish that whispers sophistication.  It is very sheer, I used three coats here, but you get away with two. My pictures didn’t capture the full holo effect, but trust me, it’s beautiful and more evident in person. I can see myself wearing this a lot.

Lovely Jubbly makes me happy! For some reason is says Par-tay! to me and reminds me of  Mardi Gras.  Must be the red glitter on the purple base?  I NEVER wore glitter polishes before I started wearing butterLONDON and now I’m hooked! This is three coats with a good top coat–a must for glitter polishes. Two coats will work  but I was going for a more opaque look.  You can also use this as a top layer over other colors. This is such a fun polish!!

Shag is the quintessential autumn color–it looks like the changing leaves but with a metallic finish. This shade doesn’t look like much in the bottle but is striking on. I was surprised it looked so nice with my pale skin and I think it will just as nice of darker skin tones. I know it will be my go-to color for fall.

The butterLONDON Autumn/Winter Collection is stunning! Lovely Jubbly and Shag are my favorites but the entire collection is absolutely gorgeous and so distinctive–you will not see these shades in other brands. This is just one reason I love the butterLONDON brand so much!

  1. Wonderful review. I played with these polishes over the weekend and can’t decide which one to wear first. They each have their own distinctness and beauty. I love how you described them.

  2. Gah! As much as I want to steer away from glitters, I just keep being attracted to them like a moth to light or a cat to anything shiny (lol). Lovely Jubbly is just awesome. Do you, by chance, know how different it is, if at all, from Sinful Colors Frenzy?
