When I think of the brand BECCA, I think of an effortless, natural girl-next-door look, not necessarily the sultry, sexy temptress. But isn’t there a little vixen in all of us? At least sometimes? You ‘betcha. BECCA’s Ultimate Eye Colour Quad in Night Star ($40) is for that vixen.
The quad houses four shades, a satin pink/cream to highlight, a satin dove grey, a matte charcoal and a soft matte black. The cream and dove grey have a very subtle sheen that helps them glow on the eyes without actually adding shimmer. I especially appreciate the dove grey shade being a true grey–so many times grey shades have a lot of blue in them and this one does not. The matte shades are not the least bit chalky–in fact BECCA calls them demi-matte and I would agree. All the shadows are finely milled, smooth as satin, blend well and have good pigment.
The quad utilizes the same packaging as BECCA’s blushes–the “space saucer” looking round compact with a full sized mirror.
I did both a day and evening look with the BECCA Night Star palette:
For the day look I applied the shadows with a lighter hand and used Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner in Anthracite , a deep gunmetal gray on the top lash line and Smashbox Soft Effects Powder Eyeliner in Gunmetal on the lower lash line.
For the night look I used Eyeko Liquid Eyeliner in Black on the top lash line and NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto on the waterline. I also concentrated more of the darker charcoal gray shadow on the outer third of the eye.
This is a great palette for those times you want to vamp it up a bit but it can still be worn for everyday also. BECCA Ultimate Eye Colour Quads come in three other colors:
Galactica – matte ebony/ metallic peach/ metallic brown/ dark matte brown
Eclipsed – matte black fig/metallic plum/metallic platinum/matte plum
Astro Violet – metallic silver/metallic champagne/metallic khaki/metallic moss
and brand new Sun Chaser – metallic tweed/metallic senna/matte buff/soft metallic peach (this one is next on my list)!
Overall: BECCA is one of my favorite brands, usually for the beachy laid-back vibe and sun drenched colors I love so it’s nice to see the brand venture into new colorways. That said, this old dawg likes the traditional BECCA best and I think I will go back to the tropical sand and sea colors that BECCA does so well. I’m delighted to say the quality and performance is still there. My only complaint is that these quads are a bit pricey ($40) for only 0.28 oz. of product. BECCA mineral powder blushes are $32 for 0.2 oz.
