Who says neutrals can’t be powerful? Park it in neutral and rev up the engine because bareMinerals Power Neutrals collection has hit the track! This made-for-me (okay maybe you too) collection includes the following unstoppable lineup:
- bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow 8.0 in the Power Neutrals ($40)
- bareMinerals READY Color Boost in The Adrenaline Rush ($29)
- Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Take Charge ($18)
- Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Super Power ($18)
- Lash domination Volumizing Mascara in Black ($18)
These chic, sophisticated neutrals can go from 0-60 mph in a few touches of a makeup brush! We’ll talk about the eyes in a separate post, but today I’m all about luminous cheeks and shiny lips.
According to bareMinerals, READY Color Boost in The Adrenaline Rush is a “luminous golden ivory, natural matte pink, and matte rosewood.” I suppose you could use each section separately as highlighter, blush and bronzer but I don’t recommend it. The Adrenaline Rush puts it into high gear when swirled together to create a lovely natural peach with deeper terracota undertones that I adore for my light skin. The finish is mostly matte with a slight luster depending upon how much of the ivory you apply. If you prefer more glow, apply the ivory over the swirled color.
With my pale skin, I am usually very light handed with my application but The Adrenaline Rush is not as pigmented as one might think from the pan. I originally used my Bobbi Brown Face Blender Brush (designed for her Shimmerbricks) but I didn’t get enough color so I switched to my Soho Contour Blush Brush and it picked up just the right amount of product. I concentrated mostly on the apples of my cheeks and faded into the hairline. I put quite a lot on here so you could see the color better. The texture is very soft and powdery–you may need to tap the excess off your brush. Darker skin tones may need to layer a bit more or use a denser brush.
Packaging is a gleaming gold compact with a full mirror, no brush included. I love the look of these compacts but grow tired of always having to wipe off the fingerprints. I think I’ve become OCD in my old age. Hmmm, maybe a little ArmorAll? Oh and beauties, this blush lasts longer than the Daytona 500, I got a good 8 hours out of it without a pit stop!
Being a sucker for all beautiful things–how pretty is this embossed design? The swirls remind me of the pictures you see of the drifting sand dunes in the Sahara Desert.
And the Flagman says: On your mark, get set, on to the lips!
I admit I don’t get too excited when I hear the term “nude lip,” with my super pale lips, it almost always means a fail. That’s why I’m so thrilled with Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Take Charge and Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Super Power!!
Take Charge is described as a nude rose and that’s very accurate. It’s a lovely shade I think most skin tones can wear. Finally, one of the few “nude” lip colors I can wear–it doesn’t make me have “concealer” lips or makes me look half dead!! About 10 years ago I went to a MAC counter and asked for J. Lo lips–I’ve been traumatized every since. First of all the salesperson looked at me like I was Methuselah and then said I could only wear nude lips with a smoky eye–SO NOT TRUE. Secondly, I swear to the Makeup Gods she gave me the same white frosty lipstick my sister wore in 1960-something-I’d-rather-forget. So there, Miss Rude MAC Girl, I now have the perfect nude lip and it’s not because of your advice or MAC! Not that I’m bitter or anything. I digress.
Marvelous Moxie lipsticks are incredibly creamy, deliver saturated color and a glossy shine worthy of any race car! This moisture-loaded hydrating complex helps to nourish and condition with Abyssinian Oil and Omega Fatty Acids. All the while, an encapsulated vitamin A, C and E complex helps to deliver antioxidant defense ideal for our over 40 pouts.
Super Power lipgloss is just that; it super charges any lipstick providing a glistening nude gold sparkle. It gives sheer to medium coverage and has the signature minty tingle I love. The texture is light and silky; gliding on lips like a chamois on a Mustang. bareMinerals packed this gloss with naturally-derived Shea, Avocado and Murumuru butters help to deeply hydrate and smooth lips. On it’s own it’s a bit frosty but still ideal for a natural, fresh summer look. Layered over Take Charge lipstick on my warm complexion, the mix turns to soft peach with a golden sheen. The turbo charge kicks in when the two are layered; they go together like pedal to the metal.
Bottom Line: these are super-charged neutrals that are chic and wearable with wonderful finishes for over 40 women. I love that I can wear the lipstick and gloss in 3 ways and they all look great!
