Aveda’s Spring/Summer Collection is inspired by nature, boasting pure pastels as well as more vibrant colors. Janell Geason, Artistic Director for Aveda introduces a blossoming palette that goes beyond mineral makeup to use natural plant ingredients that are gentle to the skin AND the planet.
“We’re seeing a return to color in makeup with techniques that create a more lived-in, less ‘done’ look,” says Janell Geason, Artistic Director for Aveda makeup. “Our new makeup collection starts with pure pastels like the first buds of spring, and builds into lush, high-summer color.”
The collection includes:
- Two Noursh-Mint Smoothing Lip Colors
- One Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze
- Two Nourish-Mint Lip Liners
- One Petal Essence Face Accents
- Two Petal Essence Eye Definers
- Six Pearl Essence Single Eye Colors
Aveda Petal Essence Single Eye Colors ($14) provide crease-resistant color with a powdery soft and silky texture. The unusal ingredients include aromatic flower waxes of jasmine and geranium to create a petal-soft texture. These shadows are buildable, blend easily and the color remains true throughout the day.
Of course I went for the neutral shades: Bare Bellis, a beautiful pink beige with a lovely sheen, Lantana, a fresh peach and Cinnamon Bark, a dark bronze. The combination of all these shades make for a casual, relaxed summer eye.
I used Bare Bellis on the brow bone and on the inner third of the lid, Lantana on the lid and Cinnamon Bark in the crease.
Perhaps the star of the collection is the Aveda Petal Essence Face Accent ($24). The three stripes of color create the perfect blush, bronze or highlight. You could use them separately but not without being very careful. I prefer to swirling the three shades together for a pale coral flush. It has the ideal amount of shimmer to impart that JLo glow. Formulated without parabens, talc, or mineral-oil.
The two limited edition lip Aveda Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Colors ($16) are e infused with plant and fruit waxes to help smooth fine lines, hydrate and plump lips. They are very moisturizing and easy to wear. These are full coverage lipsticks with rich pigments and a creamy smooth texture.
Cana is a bright saturated red that is surprisingly easy to wear. Normally I feel that reds overpower my fair skin, but Cana was a pleasure to wear with none of the self consciousness I usually have with red lipstick.
Melochia Bloom is a pretty medium pinky peach that is universally flattering.
You can see the difference a lip color makes to the overall look in the following pictures. I have on the same eye makeup (the three eye shadows mentioned above). In one picture I have on the bright red Cana lipstick and the other Melochia Bloom.
Bottom Line: Aveda has developed a lovely line of cosmetics that are high quality and perform beautifully. The sheen on the eye shadows is very appropriate for the over 40 woman.
